WASHINGTON Senior Internal Revenue Service officials knew agents were targeting tea party groups as early as 2011, according to a draft of an inspector generals report obtained by The Associated Press that seemingly contradicts public statements by the IRS commissioner.
The IRS apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was inappropriate targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. The agency blamed low-level employees, saying no high-level officials were aware.
But on June 29, 2011, Lois G. Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations, learned at a meeting that groups were being targeted, according to the watchdogs report. At the meeting, she was told that groups with Tea Party, Patriot or 9/12 Project in their names were being flagged for additional and often burdensome scrutiny, the report says.
The 9-12 Project is a group started by conservative TV personality Glenn Beck.
Lerner instructed agents to change the criteria for flagging groups immediately, the report says.
The Treasury Departments inspector general for tax administration is expected to release the results of a nearly yearlong investigation in the coming week. The AP obtained part of the draft report, which has been shared with congressional aides.

It is a sick joke to put the most unpopular agency in charge of health care.

Well, it’s not joke. The IRS was chosen probably because it is ‘extra-legal’ already. They answer to no Congressional oversight.

You're right.
The AP and Washington Post are just clearing the way for Hillary's election and strong midterms... The MSM gets the bad news out about dems - then when it matters - they'll say it's ‘OLD NEWS’... An old Clinton tactic... an added bonus is people (like me in this case) temporally believe the press is changing - that they'll report the same regardless of party. I should have known better. Hope trumped good sense.... happens.
I forgot - the press works WITH democrats... this fake ‘honesty’ is strategy... The Obama people probably called them and gave them the name of the woman in the IRS and a few Benghazi names... Get the bad news out when it doesn't hurt elections. Eff the Washington Post and AP...

Heard on ABC news on the radio some repeater mentioning Bush!
Thank goodness I listen to Mark Levin now I know what happened and why any mention of a Bush appointee is a deflection.

Political targeting of conservative groups during an election cycle is illegal.
This will have legs. Not sure how far up it will go, but this will plague Obozo for months to come.
Keep this sob off kilter and derail his agenda at the very least. Hopefully, it lead to an impeachment.

Left wing soviet style political commissars are now present in every Federal agency including the CIA. They are directed and report directly to the White house. The IRS harassment of political groups was no bureaucratic misjudgement, nor was the altering of the CIA talking points.
I don’t have any independent knowledge that this is true. Having said that I would be truly shocked if it were not.

So many things to investigate here! In addition to the obvious things, I’d add that we should look very carefully at who put out the “low level employee” story.
In addition to corruption, I’d start firing people for total incompetence. They can’t even fabricate a plausible story. I suppose when all of Zippy’s implausible history and implausible documentation and implausible marriage are taken at face value, they expect we are stupid enough to fall for anything.
All of these fake stories and coverups have been out there for quite a while now. They keep piling up one after another. I’m not sure which metaphor to go for. Will this all unravel slowly? Will it suddenly blow up in their face? Will there be a straw that breaks the camel’s back?
