IRS Blunder Gives Republicans Ammunition in Effort to Defund the Agency

The Internal Revenue Service’s admission that it inappropriately targeted conservative political groups for special scrutiny during the 2012 presidential election only gives congressional Republicans more ammunition as they try to defund and weaken the agency.

For the past few years, Republican lawmakers have sought to slash the funding of the IRS. Reducing the agency’s budget makes it more difficult for it to collect taxes and audit individuals. (Score one for Republicans who dislike high taxes).

But, more importantly, the IRS is also one of the key agencies that will implement the Affordable Care Act. Much of the funding stream for the incoming health care law, arguably the president’s signature legislative achievement, comes from two tax increases: a 3.8 percent hike on investment income for wealthy individuals, estates, and trusts, as well as an additional Medicare tax.

It wasn’t a blunder.

Unless Watergate was also a blunder.

Those who augmented the of harassing Conservative groups should be fired.

That’s right FIRED.

If they admit it, they know who did it. FIRE them.

Obviously Obama voters.

A criminal act is now a “blunder?”

Maybe 300 million Americans can relegate employees of a certain agency to the same social rung as a pedophile. Intimidating and bullying these employees until the agency has no more employees left, and no prospects of attracting any more employees. That would render that agency redundant. That’s how the people could effectively dismantle an agency

I thought a blunder was when you miss stepping up onto the curb because of bifocals, and do a faceplant.

I didn't think the definition included specifically targetting political enemies to harrass using the power of the state.

Is it only a coincidence that an IRS voter-suppression scheme took place in Ohio, considered the most “in-play” swing-state in the last 2 Presidential elections?

Not defending the IRS but even if we repeal the 16th amendment, there will still be a tax collecting entity for FedGov™. Hopefully smaller and non political.

Those who augmented the of harassing Conservative groups should be fired.

They should be indicted. These are criminal violations, and unless they are willing give up and testify against the superior who gave them the orders - these IRS officials need to pay the price.

I believe it’s also a criminal act, and people need to see prison time.

That’s right FIRED.

As a start, sure. However, what they did was a criminal act, and they need to be prosecuted and jailed.

The more ammo the RINOcrats have, the more chances they have to shoot themselves in their feet. These dummies in the republican party don’t know how to add one and one to get two. They are so inept it ain’t funny.

Still think this IRS story was released Friday to distract conservatives and others from the Benghazi repercussions that are coming anyway. A dog-wagger, if you please.

I wonder what kind of “healthcare” the TEA Party members and other conservatives will be receiving once the IRS starts running our healthcare system under ObamaCare. Ain’t “lookin’ good” for our side. If you’re an American and a conservative, you may want to try not to get sick.

“Still think this IRS story was released Friday to distract conservatives and others from the Benghazi repercussions that are coming anyway. A dog-wagger, if you please.”

If so, I think it backfired. These stories wound up feeding upon each other. A pattern of crookedness is far more disturbing to the average person than an “isolated incident” by “low-level employees”.

The IRS definitely needs to have some housecleaning done before they start making healthcare decisions for Americans.

How's that hopey changey thingy working out for ya?!

I wonder what kind of intimidation the IRS will use as it administers the AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE LAW. The boot on the neck will be heavy. As Obamas minions say, “if we can’t use the power of persuasion, we will use the persuasion of power”. This is a little insight into the tyrrany of government. It will only get worse.
