Major Didier Pericou told The Times of Europe, "When we first went out in the helicopter looking for the body, we saw numerous vultures without realizing what they were doing."

Pericou added that the incident has reignited calls from local farmers to allow hunting of the birds. The Times reported that Pyrénéan farmers have been demanding the right to shoot the birds, known as Griffon Vultures, because they've been attacking sheep and cows.

But the species is protected in France and has lost access to its normal diet of carcasses due to European health and safety regulations.

A species needs to eat.

Vultures are only interested in dead bodies and pose no risk to live animals.

Same problem here with progressives. These vultures will eat anything dead or dying.

There are some vultures in my area that are taking great interest in my chickens when I put them out in their tractor.

the birds, known as Griffon Vultures,

Well, they weren’t called Griffon because they were
warm and cuddly.

Weren’t Griffons part bird and part lion?

During a tour of a Tanzanian national park we came upon a pack of hyenas and several vultures feasting on what the guide said was a young wildebeest. It’s a scene that’s seared into my memory.

Ugh, nasty. Imagine having to clean up the remainders.

Horrible thing for the family to have to live with. Lord have mercy.

Man that is a quick clean up. Beats merry maids by a long shot. But the didn’t properly dispose of the shoes and clothing. Trashy dang birds. I read somewhere that the europeans must now burn the bodies of their farm animals to prevent the spread of disease. BBQ?

From what I've been reading about these vultures, dead isn't all that important. Apparently they will attack and eat living livestock.

Bunk

Here in Texas buzzards will go after a cow that is calving and kill both cow and calf.

Vultures will do the same.
