TRAGIC CRASH: 747 GOES DOWN IN AFGHANISTAN

7 AMERICANS DEAD. ACCIDENT OR ATTACK?

With great sadness we learned today that a cargo aircraft has mysteriously gone down in Afghanistan. It was not a military aircraft, but a civilian contractor jet carrying cargo, not passengers. All seven U.S. civilian crew members - six from Michigan and one from Kentucky - were tragically killed and the aircraft, a Boeing 747, was completely destroyed.

Another civilian contractor caught the crash on a vehicle mounted dash cam. It is a graphic and disturbing video that brings up many questions about what happened.
Was it an accident? Sabotage? Attack? Here's the full story below from CNN.

(CNN) -- A cargo plane crashed in Afghanistan killing all seven crew members on board Monday.

All seven were U.S. citizens, the cargo carrier National Airlines said.

The crash happened shortly after takeoff from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan....

"This was a purely cargo flight and no passengers were aboard," a company statement said. "Cargo consisted of vehicles and routine general cargo."

*snip*

The cause of the crash has not been determined.

But Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said his group shot down the aircraft and that "several foreign soldiers were killed."

That claim could not be immediately verified. But in the past, the Taliban has exaggerated casualty figures.

It's very sad to see things like this happen. Questions remain about the validity of the Taliban claim on responsibility. Are they actually capable of taking out a huge target like a 747? Whether accident or attack, the fact remains that Afghanistan continues to be an extremely dangerous place for American troops and contractors.
