New Poll Shows Sanford, Colbert Busch Tied
National Review ^ | 5/2/13 | Jim Geraghty

For what it’s worth: “Less than a week before the contentious special election between Mark Sanford (R) and Elizabeth Colbert-Busch (D), a RRH/PMI automated survey of 650 likely voters in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District finds the race as close as can be, with both candidates taking 46 percent of the vote and 7 percent undecided. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 5 percent.”

Oh, and right on time, just when I was talking about Sanford, here is a poll with him decidedly NOT going up in smoke.

Just to be clear, I probably would not have voted for him in the primary. I forgive him, but I don’t believe forgiveness means you should serve in public office again, however, people citing this as another ‘Akin’ before the guy has even lost, when he’s not even down in the polls, is ridiculous.

I hope he wins just to shut Rove and his lemmings up.

I say let Sanford win, then primary his butt out in 2014.

Probably the best plan available.

Yes, but you’ll need a challenger for that. Obviously his opponents in this primary were too weak. Hopefully someone surfaces?

The district is typically R+11. This could be entertaining.

I hope Sanford wins, and bigtime. Otherwise we will be stuck with yet one more uber liberal vote in Congress. Time to get off the moral high horse. Sanford fell in love; not commit a murder. Relationships are messy things, however, if a good amount of Freepers were willing to put up with Newt Gingrich for Prez, whose affairs outside of marriage were multiple and tacky to boot, then one should allow for a single indiscretion by Sanford with a woman he is engaged to marry.

Why anyone in their right mind would want a Dem to win here is beyond me. Any Republican is better than any Democrat, always. It’s the ideology that is of concern here. I hope Sanford beats this woman by a wide margin. What possible satisfaction could one have in seeing yet another Dem put in office to vote for further liberal policies that will end up hurting all of us in our daily lives. Geez, people have got to keep things in proper perspective. Think, not react emotionally.

Remember though, Democrat voters become relatively more sucky in elections that don’t have presidents on ballots. They’re less cooperative when the bus comes to pick them up and take them to the polling stations. These voters weigh costs and benefits, and voting for one House seat has to compete with important Democrat activities like “go and get booze with my foods stamps” and “read my copy of Gays Monthly”.

While I don’t agree that any Republican is better than a DemonRat, Sanford is better than any DemonRat, especially this particular scum-sucking leech.

There were more Sanford voters than there were general voters in the entire Democrat primary. If I had to place a bet, a crappy comedian is going to be bitter on election night.

Exactly. And the NY Times Nate Silver who has access to RAT campaign polls hasn’t gone on the record declaring a Colbert win. This might be fun to watch.

If he survives to win this special election, it will be virtually impossible to find an adequate challenger in the regular election’s primary. Where was that person for this primary?

By next year,, he’d be an incumbent and will have tied up the support of every important voting bloc and donor in the district and have a safe $ cushion to thwart the challenge. Same with her, tho I think the CD is strongly R enough that she could face a challenge, to what avail who knows? Nothing as good as incumbency to spell future success.

I’m just curious, if Sanford loses, will Mamacita high tail it back to Buenos Aires, because she doesn’t want to be stuck with a “loser”?
