Reid: More funding needed to prevent ObamaCare from becoming 'train wreck' By Alexander Bolton - 05/01/13 05:45 PM ET

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says he shares colleagues’ concerns that the Affordable Care Act could become a “train wreck” if it’s not implemented properly.

Reid warned that people will not be able to choose health insurance plans on government health exchanges if federal authorities lack the resources to set them up and educate the public.

“Max said unless we implement this properly it’s going to be a train wreck and I agree with him,” Reid said, echoing a warning delivered last month by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.).

Reid warned the federal government is not spending enough money to implement the law because of Republican opposition to ObamaCare.

“Here’s what we have now, we have the menu but we don’t have any way to get to the menu,” Reid said.

Reid made his comments during an hour-long interview on The Rusty Humphries Show broadcast Wednesday afternoon from Las Vegas.

The shortage of funding to implement the law has forced President Obama to shift funds from other parts of the law.

“The president is taking money, I wish we had the money just to do this on its own but he’s agreed, he’s determined he’s going to take money from some of the other things that he feels are less important in the healthcare bill and put it on letting you and others know what’s in the bill,” Reid told a caller to the show.

Reid defended the need for the law, which dramatically expanded federal healthcare subsidies for the uninsured.

“I believe that a country of our size, the only superpower left in the world — it’s not right that we have 50-60 million people … with no health insurance,” he said. “We have to have a program where health insurance shouldn’t go to people who are rich, people who are upper-middle class. I believe the middle class and people below the middle class deserve to go to the hospital when they’re sick.”

Reid said he was well familiar with the law, which spanned as long as 2,000 pages when it was a bill, before it passed.

“Of course I read it. I didn’t sit down on a Friday evening and read it. This legislation was drafted over a period of months and months,” he said. “I can pass a test on it, I knew the law pretty well.”

We can still kill Obamacare by NOT increasing the funding originally passed. Clearly, we have to depose Boehner to do it. Time to make some calls.

the are laying the groundwork for its obvious trainwreck failure. this is the way they try to blame republicans for it. since none voted for it originally.

now its we need more money to make sure it works. gee so much for heeding the warnings before passing the stupid thing.

i believe reid is even more evil than obama. if one can be.

This is laughable - it’s a train wreck, period, as anyone with any sense predicted it would be. “More funding” would just make it a bigger train that wrecks.

This funding argument is to create a narrative to blame it on the Sequester and therefore the fault of the Republicans rather than the nature of the legislation itself.

this is posturing. the left knows this is gonna crash hard. they know they own it. this is purely a ploy to give the ‘rats an opportunity to say “It wouldve been great if we’d just had a little more money” instead of them being solely responsible for it.

"Reid warned the federal government is not spending enough money to implement the law because of Republican opposition to ObamaCare."

So the meme for 2014 is -- Obamacare, which the Republicans opposed, will be a disaster of epic proportions because Republicans are opposed to it?

It looks like government is trying to turn its constitutionally indefensible remedy, Obamacare, a remedy for a government-manufactured crisis, into another government manufactured crisis. In other words, Obamacare was arguably a Trojan horse remedy containing another government-manufactured crisis.

The shortage of funding to implement the law has forced President Obama to shift funds from other parts of the law.

If we're too spineless to actually defund this monstrosity, we need to at least hold the line and strictly account for funds being spent where allocated. I can never forgive anyone who contributes to ObamaCare becoming a "successful" entitlement that reaches stable implementation.

I am not surprised that lame-brained Reid would go to the old canard of "not enough money". I mean, isn't that what liberals always go to, to explain the failure of their policies? Not enough money.

Obamacare is a train wreck; but, no amount of money can help right that train.

Anyone who is already part of a qualified medical insurance program doesn't need to go into the pool a.k.a. 'exchange'.

The 'exchange' is not OBAMAKKKARE ~ there's a whole package of oppressive and ruinous taxes that are actually OBAMAKKKARE.

Every Democrat politician in America should fear for his life and safety as those taxes begin to rip the heart out of everyone.

Getting involved in the 'put them in the exchange' debate isn't the route to satori in real time ~ rather, it wastes our time and agitates folks who need to keep targeted on the ENORMOUS ObamaKKKare taxes AND the death panels.

Unlike most political failures initiated by the progressive statists, Obamacare cannot be pinned on conservatives.

Troubling indeed for those who passed it and made promises about how it would make unicorns and rainbows appear everywhere.

What possible parallel could there be between Germany's national socialists seizing absolute power because they thought their vision of the country would be better than freedom, and Obama's socialists seizing absolute power because they thought their vision of the country would be better than freedom?

I hope the thing fails miserably and takes the American economy down with it quickly. It does nothing at all other than make slaves out of all of us. I would much assume fend for myself in totality than have this feral government anymore involved in my life (or anyone else’s). Yup, a failed American economy will result in lots and lots of death, but that is not my fault and I am simply tired of working so others (who will be in the death ne toll) can sit on their asses. Anyone worth any merit will have family and friends to take care of them. To the moochers. Fuck You.

Want to know why 42% of Americans don't understand why this is law already? Because people like the Senate Majority Leader keep referring to it as "this bill", "the bill", etc. That language implies that it is still in process.

Look at his statement when he is clear it is the law:

The president is taking money, I wish we had the money just to do this on its own but he’s agreed, he’s determined he’s going to take money from some of the other things that he feels are less important in the healthcare law and put it on letting you and others know what is in this law.

It's the law, and nobody knows what is in it.
