Tea Party group hopes to draft Sarah Palin for Senate run in Alaska By Justin Sink - 05/01/13 08:36 AM ET
A tea party group is encouraging supporters to give money in an effort to draft former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to run against Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) in 2014.
"You and I both know that Sarah Palin is a fighter who will stand up to Harry Reid and his pals in the Senate to protect our Constitution in issues like amnesty, gun control and our nation's crushing debt," said the fundraising email from Todd Cefaratti of the Tea Party Leadership Fund, obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
"We know that, with Sarah in the Senate, conservatives across America can rest a little easier at night knowing that she's at the watch."
Palin has thus far not indicated any interest in challenging Begich, the former Anchorage mayor who defeated the Senate's longest serving Republican member, Ted Stevens, in 2008. But early polling suggests the former Alaska governor would face an uphill climb.
In a February survey by Public Policy Polling, Begich led Palin 54-38 percent. In that same survey, just a third of Alaska voters said they viewed Palin favorably, while nearly six in 10 held a negative opinion. Meanwhile, voters approved of Begich's job performance 49-39 percent.
I’m not from Alaska but that is one way to get her out of the way. I think there are many repubs out there worried that she may run for president. Even if the repubs would win back the senate she would be treated the same by the repubs in power as she is treated by the dems. There would be a handful of brave souls who would hang with her but I could count those on one hand.
The repub elite is more afraid of her than the dems are. Get her out of the way and run their real choice. And that choice isn’t going to be anything close to conservative. She is powerless as a senator. But as president, not so much!
The backstabbing of Palin by those in her own Party is one of the primary reasons I no longer have any faith, trust or respect in the GOP. I’ve voted exclusively Republican my entire life, never deviating a single time. But I’m now to the point I might very likely never give the GOP another vote again. That process is already started, even in the last election. I left most of my ballots blank, where I used to go down the list, voting for each and every “R” candidate.
Only two watershed political developments in my life... my becoming a devoted conservative Republican during the excitement Reagan’s rise, and my total revulsion over the disgusting and disloyal treatment of Palin by her so-called Party.
Tea Party Group? The fellow fronting this effort is the same guy who was discussed in this thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2577608/posts?q=1&;page=51
Go Sarah!
