Congressman To DHS: You’re Going Through 1,000 More Rounds Per Person Than The Army
Freedom Outpost ^ | Apr. 26, 2013 | Dean Garrison

Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah-3rd District) had serious questions for DHS representatives on Thursday. Fox News reports:

Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday that the Department of Homeland Security is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials on their “massive” bullet buys.

“It is entirely … inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition,” Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at a hearing.

The hearing itself was unusual, as questions about the department’s ammunition purchases until recently had bubbled largely under the radar — on blogs and in the occasional news article. But as the Department of Homeland Security found itself publicly defending the purchases, lawmakers gradually showed more interest in the issue.

Chaffetz’ questions were about waste and accountability. He was able to structure a solid line of questioning based upon the fact that DHS is requiring 1000 more rounds per agent than the United States Army requires for one of its soldiers:

Chaffetz, who chairs one of the House oversight subcommittees holding the hearing Thursday, revealed that the department currently has more than 260 million rounds in stock. He said the department bought more than 103 million rounds in 2012 and used 116 million that same year — among roughly 70,000 agents.

Comparing that with the small-arms purchases procured by the U.S. Army, he said the DHS is churning through between 1,300 and 1,600 rounds per officer, while the U.S. Army goes through roughly 350 rounds per soldier.

He noted that is “roughly 1,000 rounds more per person.”

“Their officers use what seems to be an exorbitant amount of ammunition,” he said.

Have you noticed that a lot of folks have slipped into the mode of thinking:

“I’m not gonna spend up these rounds on fun, I might need ‘em for serious business”?

“I’m amazed they didn’t hurt anybody else. That many round fired by DHS, they could have injured more innocent bystanders than the bombers did in the first place.”

Rounds did go into people’s houses. Saw a calendar in a little girl’s bedroom with a bullet hole through it. The father was not happy.

Think “Keystone Cops” - Apparently they need a lot of training which means look out when the lead starts flying, because they just might not be able to hit what they’re aiming at.

Therefore, there will be lots of unintended bullet strikes. Next we’ll all need safe rooms for more than tornadoes.

I know a guy that is shooting this weekend with DFW police.
They do think it is free and it chaps me that they are willing to splurge taxpayer money on acquaintances while the supply is tight.

This guy has finagled Ca cops into it too.

If there are surpluses it is no big deal to me.

Simple. They are trying to corner the market on killing.

As a retired police chief of a department of 150 sworn officers; I can attest that 1000 rounds/officer per year is about right. Our officers qualified quarterly with 40 cal. Glocks and 9mm MP5 (semi auto or two round operation). Each qualification spent 150-300 rounds. (We qualified with duty ammo (Ranger ammo) as it costs more to buy both practice and duty ammo.) And, of course the much reviled (on this forum) SWAT team used much more/officer.

We purchased out two years in advance as every PD in the nation used these calibers and brands.

Now, I don't know if DHS is trying to corner the market but I suspect the reason has to do with the gun grabbers in Washington causing a panic; a large of supply going to the military and of course the DHS purchases.

Well said but I also want to get Boehner, McCain and the other RINOS out of DC as well. It makes me mad as hell to see this country go down the tubes but what is worse is to see the damn republicans wimp out time after time.

The DHS is quickly becoming Obama’s personal civilian army. This is unconstitutional and is a hellish direct threat to our liberty.
And then there is this:

Obama’s “Private Army”

FULL ANSWER

This e-mail features a prominent reference to something we’ve dealt with before: A July 2, 2008, speech in Colorado Springs by then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. Obama talked there about building up "a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as our military force.

Between the Feds buying ammo, and us trying to, there isn’t much ammo to buy.

A younger female relative likes to hunt and wanted to take a course in skeet or trap shooting for her graduation from Junior High. She shoots a 20 gauge.

Her dad was told that she had to bring 4 boxes of 20 gauge target/small game shells for each part of the 2 day course.

He was not able to find any 20 gauge shells in the two county area where they live, and he heard that our local Walmart had some.

We went into our store and got the only 7 boxes of 20 gauge’s, which were the only shells, the store had left. Their locked ammo shelves were empty, and there was a sign that the store had to limit any ammo purchase to 3 boxes of any ammo.

Apparently, 20 gauge shells are not in demand like any other shells, and there was no limit. I can get her more on the store’s next weekly shipment. I will try to get 9 more boxes of the target small game load. Then, she can dove hunt after taking here skeet/trap shooting courses.

***The left is in a complete uproar to legalize same sex marriage, give amnesty and voting rights to the illegal aliens and also restrict our guns.***

We are told that Same sex marriage is already a done deal... ignoring the fact that 37 [39?] states have passed state constitutional amendments - with super majorities - outlawing the practice. The opinion FOR is based on a WP / LAT poll... A POLL!!! ...and our side tells us the issue is lost.

As to amnesty and voting rights to illegals, your own Fornicalia is proposing to extend free health care to all illegals who can cross the border. Sen Marco Rubio campaigns that his immigration bill is NOT amnesty... and perhaps on paper it isn't. However, just like Prop 18 in Fornicalia some years ago, a federal judge will undo all that.

The USDA is pushing for food stamps for all illegal aliens; as I say, they will receive free health care benefits - and more. Why does the socialist oligarchy want to burden us with all this plus a $17 tril debt that is almost impossible to resolve without destroying the dollar? Jimmy Carter told us why when he was President: Because it is time for America to become a second or third rate power. The public was not ready for such a horror then, given our prosperity and the cold war. Our Holder Youth Movement has been prepared to accept Poppa Government as Supremo and no body else.

As to 'gun control': New York is already confiscating guns!!! Do you hear anything in the media about it? Is there a Constitutional outcry? And, speaking of the Constitution, can we look to the Supreme Court to defend that document? If you think so I can sell you a lucrative toll bridge?

***After the 2014 elections, they will be pushing wall-to-wall for an amendment allowing Prince Obama a third term.***

Perhaps you are right... perhaps they will not even bother for a legal status. Again about the Constitution: The Constitution died with the passage of the Affordable Care Act [Ob@ma Care}... AND, Chief Traitor of the SCOTUS, John Roberts, insured such an outcome!

As to Ob@ma & Muslims - if I were in counter-intelligence I would have to consider the possiblility that Ob@ma is an agent of either the Muslim Brotherhood or Iran - or both!!! I cannot even undertake to mention here all the betrayals of Israel that this administration has committed; one recent one was the revelation that Israel had an agreement with Azerbaijan for landing rights if they choose to bomb Iran... Completely blown out of the water by you know who.

***...him elected again in 2016, then it’s Katy bar the door. America will be doomed***

Sadly, it is hard to perceive how we can escape that doom now. As I say, the $17 tril debt has already doomed us, our children, our grandchildren, our great-great-grand nephews, etc. The continuing treasonous spending by the Congress assures us of a crash fairly soon. Adding food stamps and health care for everyone who shows up on their knees before their Commissar should nail the coffin closed for America.

When that happens it remains to be seen who will take over power: the Democrap Socialists, the Muslims or the Latinos. They will undoubtedly fight to the death for supremacy... especially if they can confiscate most of the guns.

My son is at the Article V Conference today... Remember the conference that many FReepers said was just a move to overthrow the Constitution? We can count them amongst the do-nothings until the roof falls in crowd. Big help there, fellow patriots... better to do nuttin', honey.

NUTS!!!

***DHS has since purchased MORE! ...DHS does not fight wars with foreign nations***

If they did, they could NOT use hollow-point ammo which contravenes the Geneva Conventions. It is obvious this hollow-point ammo is for killing Americans [not illegals or Muslims or communists]. It is inescapable. Ob@ma and Big Sis are preparing for war on the American people!

Also, one does not target practice with hollow-point ammo... one uses lighter solid point corn puffs.

It will become a big deal to you when you need it, don't have it and can't get it.

Unless, of course, you are prepared to peel it off a dead "law enforcement officer".

We either belive “ our lying eyes” or what we are told to see.

I'd suggest we make no more waves about it.

Buy ammo when we can, and keep our mouths Shut.
