Ben Affleck takes poverty vow: Eat on $1.50 a day

Newly-anointed World’s Most Beautiful Woman Gwyneth Paltrow has famously dismissed the plebs who criticize her extravagant lifestyle. “F— the haters!” she told Elle UK in 2009. “I am who I am. I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.”

But apparently, the same isn’t true for Paltrow’s old flame Ben Affleck. The Oscar-winning director recently signed on to participate in the Global Poverty Project’s Live Below the Line, a campaign that challenges average (and above-average) people to live on just $1.50 a day for five days.

The initiative is meant to simulate what it’s like for the 1.4 billion people worldwide who live in extreme poverty. Getting by on that pittance every day would actually mean spending just $547.5 per year — which makes $25,000 look like a pretty princely sum.

I’m guessing they won’t be paying ‘fair trade’ prices for any of their consumables.

$1.50 a day in Mexico, India, Czech Republic, or NYC?

There is a difference elsewhere what a dollar will buy you.

Day 1: blow entire week's budget on a single coffee at Starbucks.

Day 2-5: Free range long pork.

More seriously, how much of the $1.50/day amount is from a large number of people living on subsistence agriculture where they grow enough to feed their families but have little left for trading (or boosting the GDP). Thus Affleck should be working in the field from dawn to dusk to get his handful of rice.

About as credible as the ‘one sheet of toilet paper’ foolishness. Sadly, the fools actually think people believe them.

Ben Affleck is one of the better HollyWeird liberals. He lives a decent upstanding family life. He lives conservative and votes Obama/liberal

Are they so stupid and self-centered that they think this type of nonsense provides GOOD publicity for their causes? Anyone with half a brain knows that Affleck will simply do nothing for a day and then go back to his Hollywood lifestyle. It simply highlights that these stars have lavish lifestyles and what hypocrites they are for assuming they can be noble champions of the poor by slumming it for a day.

I remember back in the 80s, when I was in school in Washington DC, that Martin Sheen spent one winter night sleeping in a Washington Metro station to highlight the plight of the homeless. He had an expensive parka and cold weather sleeping bag. I am sure he wasn't remotely cold the entire night. Some of my friends and I stood around for a while yelling "hypocrite" and making other comments but he didn't notice us.
