Reid to shelve gun bill (and try again later)

(CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday he'll set aside proposed gun legislation without a final vote following the defeat a day earlier of major provisions sought by President Barack Obama and Democrats in the aftermath of the Newtown school massacre.

"(Obama) and I agreed that the best way to keep working towards passing a background check bill is to hit pause, and freeze the background check bill where it is," he said on the Senate floor. "This will allow senators to keep negotiating."

A Senate Democratic leadership aide said Reid can bring up the package of gun proposals again if circumstances change and he believes he has the votes for key provisions to pass, particularly a measure to expand background checks on gun buyers.

"We're gonna have time to work on what people want to do before we come back to this," Reid said, adding that this option allows them to return to the bill without returning to square one.

"It will only be a matter of time."

"The stand of the Republicans is not sustainable," he said.

In a major defeat for supporters of tougher gun laws, the Senate on Wednesday defeated a compromise plan to expand background checks on firearms sales as well as a proposal to ban some semi-automatic firearms modeled after military assault weapons.

“We’re gonna have time to work on what people want to do before we come back to this”

So, I assume the people don’t want you to work on this, is that correct Dingy Harry??

Let me again extend my gratitude for the state of Nevada for returning this imbicile to the Senate.

Pesky republicans were the same way about slavery.

Translation: we’re just going to wait for the next exploitable tragedy and THEN ram this piece of unconstitutional garbage down Americas throat.

They have to hope and pray to Moloch, their god, for another tragedy to exploit in order to get the votes.

Would be nice if things cooled off so we could find some ammo.

what? Is he going to put it in his freezer and serve it as is—like leftovers or last week’s frozen spaghetti sauce? Sounds like DEMS aren’t even going to try to modify it at all.

Come to think of it, so were the Democrats. That ended badly for them.

This is why we need for the GOP to retake the Senate.

LDS priesthood holder Reid is 73 years old.

He shelves the bill for another day. Let us hope that his time runs out before the bill gets a chance at another vote.

Yep. They are probably hoping for a bigger one.
My liberal friends are saying they want a bigger bill than this weak one.

Reid to shelve gun bill... and pray for another mass murder to occur so that he can try to ram it through.
