Very surprising that a capable candidate wasn’t available to take him out in the primary.

Now, I’d like to know who financed this tool’s campaign. Can we please know?

“he self-destructed with spectacular speed”

Nonsense. He’ll still win.

The national GOP is still a bunch of amateurs. If they were on the ball, they would have found out about these issues and disclosed them during the primary. It really does amaze me how bad the national GOP is when it comes to spotting issues and getting on top of them for elections.

So, the GOPe is willing to forgive him for cheating on and very publicly humiliating his wife leading to his high-profile resignation as a Governor, but throws him overboard for an unproven charge of trespassing? Do I have that clear?

GOPe is assembling a circular firing squad. Again.

He was promoted up with help from those who planned and hoped in the long run it would hurt the republicans. He should do the right thing and withdraw his name so we can replace him with another candidate.

You folks do know that the original linked article was from the Washington Post, don’t you? Yes, that Washington Post that is such a good friend of conservatives and Republicans. They couldn’t possibly be trying to promote a Republican defeat—could they? And, if they were trying to engineer such a Republican defeat in a special election they wouldn’t be able to find any Useful Idiots here on Free Republic, would they?

Seriously, I supported Bostic (small donation—I’m not in SC so couldn’t vote) in the Republican runoff. But, since Sanford won the run-off, I’ll support Sanford in the general election of this special election.

I didn’t think that Sanford would need any of my small financial help, but after seeing the Washington Post (along with some apparent members of the GOPe) get on the anti-Sanford warpath, I’ll have to reconsider that assumption and donate to the Sanford campaign. I hope that those of you who are not supporting the Democrat candidate will consider donating also to this non-GOPe conservative Republican.

This guy is obviously guilty of serial poor judgement. Why pick him out of many other eligble candidates who have moral compasses to represent SC in the Congress? I don’t get it.

Looking through the comments I see a number of folks are interested in electing another Democrat to Congress—althought they’ll try to convince you their motives are pure. I know better and so should all true conservatives.

This guy is a walking disaster. His excuse for going into his wife’s house, he wanted to watch the Super Bowl with his 14 year old son. Why not call the son up ahead of time and bring him back to his own residence? Well that would avoid all the drama and Mark is all about the drama.

If he is such a devoted father he wouldn’t have skipped out of the country on Father’s Day 2009 to spend time with his mistress in South America.

And what a classy way to have his sons meet his former mistress/now fiancee. with the camera there to capture every uncomfortably moment for public viewing.

All I need to know about this creep is to listen to that impromptu press conference where he gushed over his mistress and their adolescent affair. He had all the emotion stability of an emo 14 year old who shows up the first day for all the Twilight movies and stalks Justin Bieber on Twitter.

The effrontery of politicians like Sanford. Proven immoralists, vice addicts if you please, thinking so highly of themselves that no disgrace will move them to shut up. They must run and save us-nonsense!

Truly sad. Because he is a rock solid small government conservative that we NEED in Washington. I hope people will realize the alternative to Mark is unacceptable. Vote him out next cycle if you must but do not put Colbert in there.

Evidence that Sanford is missing cards in his deck of 52.

Also evidence that Sanford has a self-destruction impulse.

the elitist GOP yet again strikes, as usual they will probably let a Dem in and some will cheer that our best hope was to get rid of Sanford and now we’ll get a jokers wife instead and they wonder why they’re called the stupid party

Sanford should be permanently barred from public office, though not for having an affair. He should be immediately disqualified from holding public office because he used (i.e. stole) state money to carry on his affair. People get so caught up obsessing over politician's personal lives that they forget that there are actual legal issues involved here, and that Sanford isn't just a sleaze in his private life, he's also a crook.

We can look the other way at an extramarital affair, it's a lot harder to ignore the fact that someone's a thief. So the RNC is right (for once) to write off this guy as a loss.
