You would think so. If that's the bomb it's not saying much about the security in the area unless it was placed there only seconds before the explosion. They say Homeland Security sets up in the area and did so yesterday as well.
If you notice there appears to be a smoke stream in the street which appears to have come directly from the spot where the bag was in the other photo.

Sorry kids I give tis a 0 rating the Shadow in the entrance of the building is a dead give away. Moments I do not belive would change the shadow image to that extent>
That’s the first one, look at the buildings, different than the ones in the photo above.
The first picture shows a guy coming out of the building...looking down...oblivious to everything....seems out of place...wonder which way he went
I saw the video with both blasts but I could not tell where the point of origin was on the second blast.
maybe but, it's in the same place, same distance away and damn near same color...
I just realized that placement of this bomb next to mailbox was a location of opportunity and probably placed there because the nearest onlooker was positioned on the other side of the mailbox. Had the onlooker/security person been on the bomb side of the mailbox, the bomber would’ve placed it on the other side. This bomb was dropped in a place hidden from the nearest set of eyes at the time.
Correct. Sounds like this was a pressure driven device simply designed to move shrapnel. Would not have caused major structural damage. Could be a lot of holes in everything though from the shrapnel that we cannot discern in this image.
Bomb blast is further to the left than this bag. Closer to the street sign.
I’m seeing same color and outline in the fogged area of the second pic.... IMO that suspect package was still there post blast from what I can see.... Same colors, same distance from the mailbox.
Don’t think it was the package from what’s available .... As Sarge K stated, the barriers are wrapped around the mailbox indicating the blast was behind that front row of victims.... I’m guessing the base of the tree behind them.
In my profession all the experts are dead ....:o)

Do you mean the guy in the gray/white jacket with what looks like a bag over his shoulder? Up to the right? I noticed him, too. He’s not watching the race, but looking down.

I don’t think so, you can see the smoke from the first blast to the right. Also it’s red brick building with a brown front (Forum), with a white building (Atlantic Fish) to the left (looking from the street.) Just do a google search on Forum, Boston and you can see with Street view pretty well.

Most I have seen are surveillance videos from private businesses.

The bomb may have been placed in the tree well.
The picture above (and at post 56) shows 2 investigators kneeling next to a "tree well." A tree well is a gap in a concrete sidewalk that allows a tree to grow. In this case the gap is rectangular. The well is commonly covered with a steel grate (at sidewalk level) with empty space below to allow for drainage. In this case, a rectagular grate is in two sections. One section has been removed and is on the sidewalk behind the right-hand kneeling investigator. The other section is still in place.
Many tree wells contain drainage pipes, electical junction cavities, or other crevices that could contain a bomb.
He looks Asian, but I don’t want to speculate. Maybe he was the first in the building after the explosion due to a stampede of people.
