SNIP

Counterterrorism officials found what they believe to be five additional, undetonated explosive devices around the Boston area, according to two people briefed on the rapidly moving investigation.

The devices—which are in addition to the two that exploded near the finish line of the marathon—were discovered over the course of a frantic inspection of suspicious packages, many of them abandoned as pedestrians, runners, and others scrambled away from crowded public streets. Each had been rendered inoperative or was in the process of being rendered inoperative, the officials said.

But the officials also sounded a note of caution, saying they are moving quickly and each device they believe is a bomb hasn't been fully dissected or analyzed.

From the Telegraph (UK): "On its website The Wall Street Journal is quoting unnamed officials as saying that a total of five undetonated devices have been found in the Boston area."

This is an unthinkable horror. I'm sure President Obama and Congress will immediately set to work passing new legislation aimed at restricting the availability of bombs, so our athletes and children can run marathons without the evil spectre of this horror hanging over their tender, innocent heads.

Maybe we need a new legal classification of "Assault Bombs." I'm sure that would help, too.

Maybe this is what it will take for people to stop littering.

Hopefully they’ll find something in Chelsea.

Counterterrorism officials are idiots. They spend a dozen years groping U.S. citizens including little old ladies and babies at airports while the Islamic terrorists ignore them and continue plying their trade at will elsewhere.

You got it.....alqueda has always had trouble with getting first class bomb makes. That's their weakness. But manpower....They're all nuts...and there's a lot of them.

I'm guessing 9 at this point in time - 2 groups of 4 and a bomb maker.

As horrific as this day was if those additional bombs had gone off this could have been even worse. Thank God they were found in time and detonated

I heard that DHS was there and has been setting up there for a few years now. Can’t help but wonder what they are tasked with...not prevention I guess. So far I haven’t heard what their contribution to safety or investigation has been.

The Boston scanner’s been on here since this happened and have heard them dispatching crews to at least 6-8 separate ‘suspicious’ and/or ‘secondary devices’.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have given many Islamic terrorists ample opportunity to hone their IED making skills (at least those skilled enough to survive their own dangerous profession and also lucky enough to elude the US and Allied forces). It looks like they have decided to take advantage of the Liar-In-Chief’s gross ineptitude to once again bring the WOT to American soil.

I wouldn’t expect a president to say something like “I’m not spending a damned dime of federal money or wasting one federal resource to assist in this investigation. You idiots are on your own.”

Update (backing off):

Counterterrorism officials found five additional suspect devices, but a law-enforcement official said late Monday that investigators now doubt the devices were bombs.

Two people briefed on the investigation said officials initially believed that the five additional devices could be undetonated explosives. Later Monday, a law-enforcement official said subsequent closer examinations led investigators to doubt that they were bombs.

Probably Claymore’s.

Speculation due to type of injury and reported projectile.
