Accord Reached On Farmworkers For Immigration Bill [New "Blue" Card]

Accord Reached On Farmworkers For Immigration Bill The deal would establish a new 'blue card' for workers already in the U.S. It concludes one of the last major components of sweeping legislation being drafted in the Senate.

By Brian Bennett and Lisa Mascaro April 12, 2013 WASHINGTON — Agreement was reached late Friday between farm labor unions and growers on one of the last major components of a sweeping immigration bill being drafted in the Senate — a deal that would set the terms of wages, visas and working conditions for migrant agriculture workers.

The accord, struck after weeks of touch-and-go talks between representatives of industry leaders and workers and brokered by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), would establish a new "blue card" for migrant workers already in this country without legal permission, and allow up to 336,000 visas for farmworkers.

The three-part package is hugely important for California's agriculture industry. It will be folded into a comprehensive immigration overhaul being written by a bipartisan group of eight senators, who are aiming to unveil the far-reaching legislation as soon as Tuesday.

Feinstein, who is not one of the eight, led the farmworker effort with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), who are part of the broader group, and Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), her longtime partner on agricultural worker immigration issues.

"All have come together to endorse this agreement," Feinstein said in a statement announcing the deal.

'Farmworkers already in the country without legal status would be eligible to apply for a new type of permanent residency called a blue card, according to those familiar with the agreement.

The process, which would require at least two years of farm work and a commitment to work in agriculture for at least another five years, would start the recipient down the path to citizenship. It would likely be faster than applying for a green card.'

Illegals get a 'blue' card similar to the ones used in Europe and they get to become a citizen faster than people who did it the right way while waiting on their green card. Joy.

Why not just give em amnesty in CA! Geeze! It will cost you tons of bucks to print the documents and cards to go along with em! Give em a social security card instead! If they had to pay taxes instead of workin for cash they would all prob leave and back to the homeland esp when their rug rats and women are off the dole!
Go ahead and make em citizens and tax the hell out of em like you do us! Now they can be documented and have status! Raise the min income for the Dole and get something back from all Illegals across the State look at the revenue you can retain! Libtards have no brains!

i've proposed we just give them a 6 month visitor visa ~ which gives them plenty of time to prepare to go back home.

Then crack down hard on visitors who overstay.

2 years hard labor on federal cannibis farms in Mississippi would be a good start maybe ~

Oh, and the death penalty for employers who hire someone not legally present in the US.

So, about 7.5 years after this becomes law, California will end up with a million more new citizens (and dependents) all applying for social welfare benefits simultaneously in a 3 to 6 month window.

Increase welfare costs by a hundred million a month forever going forward, so we can get slightly cheaper vegetables today.

The California farm worker has been the Trojan horse for Mexico. The farm worker and their families have taken more in benefits than they have ever contributed to the US Government. . The central valley is now Mexico because of huge population growth because of unlimited resources provided by the USA . Spanish will be the official language in the Southwest in five years. You have to live here to believe how quickly this part of the country has changed. Future generation will read about how the USA was taken over and not one shot was fired.

Eventually Franken Food Technology is going to allow us to abandon California's irrigated agricultural areas.

You'll even have year round banana trees in your backyard in Minnesota so we won't need Central America either!

Shipping in millions of foreigners to pick lettuce is stupid ~ that assumes we will always like lettuce and it will only be primarily available from California and Arizona ~ i see it arriving to us in a plastic ball that we sit on the dining room table, and as much as we take from the ball it grows new perfectly shaped crunchy lettuce heads.

Eventually much of Southern California will be returned to its original desert state ~

Spain used to own the whole place ~ except for Labrador and Brazil. You knew that, right?

Spain began carving things up for European settlement about 1604. From that time on history happened.

The hispanics retaking North America are attempting to back out of the deal!

Buchanan book “The Death of the West” based on uncontrolled LEGAL AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION FROM THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES HAS NOW COME TO PASS.

You change the culture, you change the nation.

The Hispanic population is not backing out of any deal. The liberals are emptying the treasury and , giving them the country in exchange for their vote.

What ever happened to Americans first? The buffoons up on Captiol Hill seem more interested in foreign nationals than the American people.

The deal was they got to keep traditional latin America and everybody else got as much of North America, otherwise a burned over drought ridden hunk of marginally useful dirt, as they could afford to handle.

Modern Hispanics now think they got screwed and are flowing into the best place on the planet ~ it got that way through the sweat and intelligence of the American people ~ not them.

They should stick to their own place!

Based upon past experience, these farm workers have a habit of getting too old to do the heavy labor involved in ag work, what happens then? They somehow get on welfare.
