Cardiologist Rob Steele is considering a bid for the open Senate seat in Michigan in 2014, according to a local source with direct knowledge of his interest.
Steele is best-known among Republicans for his 2010 bid against longtime Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich. During that campaign, Steele picked up former Alaska Republican Gov. Sarah Palins endorsement and gave national Democrats a brief scare that Dingell could lose his safe Democratic seat. Steele lost by 17 points.

Republicans talked up Steele in 2011 when they hunted for a challenger to Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Ultimately, Steele unsuccessfully ran for a position on the University of Michigans Board of Regents in the 2012 cycle, according to The Michigan Daily.
This cycle, both Republicans and Democrats are on the hunt for candidates to run for the Senate since Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., announced his retirement earlier this year.
Elsewhere in the potential GOP field, Rep. Mike Rogers continues to mull leaving his post as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee for a Senate run.
I need to decide, is it more impactful to stay and do that as chairman, or to kind of pull out of that and run for Senate? he told CNNs Jake Tapper on Tuesday.

Other Republicans considering runs include Rep. Justin Amash, former state GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis and former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.
Democratic contenders include Debbie Dingell, the congressmans wife, and Reps. Gary Peters and Dan Kildee.
CC... let the MI group know...
Yes he did, and it is theorized he tangentially de-funded so many other DEM’s in the State that if not for Doc’s Run the State’s Local and State Legislative bodies would not be what they are if not for his run...
Saul Anuzis needs to become a democrat and run......away.

Therone. Shut up! I heard the same on the way home from work. X mentioned he was going to have him on the show soon. Good news.
Conservatives and tea partiers have considerable power in Michigan. The evidence is in the silence coming from GOPers like Rick Snyder and Bobby Schostak who won’t condemn Dave Agema despite the fact that they desperately want to.

Dr Rob is a great guy. Not sure if he has the backing to make it to the Senate but he is bright, conservative, and highly intelligent. If he could obtain the backing of Palin and our most current Dr. Carson.....it could be interesting. It was quite the thing two conventions ago when I was in my Districts section and Dr Steele just finished speaking when, suddenly, his presence was summoned in the room next to us. One of the men in the adjoining district convention had fallen and was having a “heart attack” when Dr Steele arrived on the scene. Before he had arrived, an ambulance was called for and Rob (Dr Steele) was at this gentleman’s side when the paramedics arrived at the scene. They instructed Rob to step aside and he announced to them assertively he was a University of Michigan cardiologist and the man on the floor was his patient and ordered them to hand their bags to him. It was quite a moving moment. Turns out, the heart attack was a panic attack (Detroit will do that to you) and Dr Steele won the hearts of most who witnessed the event.
A good man.
Great Story, I remember hearing something about it vaguely. Yes he is a good man...
