Will Port Stanley become Port Margaret?... rename Falklands capital in honour of their liberator
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 9th April 2013 | James Chapman

Port Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands, should be renamed Port Margaret as a tribute to Baroness Thatcher, senior figures in the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defence are suggesting.

The idea is being backed by MPs and is also attracting considerable support on the islands, which Lady Thatcher was responsible for liberating in 1982.

The proposal is likely to trigger fury in Argentina, which has been ratcheting up the rhetoric over the sovereignty of the Falklands around the 30th anniversary of the conflict.

To me, Port Thatcher would sound better than Port Margaret, but either way, provided the Islanders approve (because the fundamental issue is always their right to self determination), I think this would be a wonderful idea.

They should put up a larger than life statue of Maggie. We should build one in this country as well. We should carve Ronald Reagan’s face in granite on a mountain! Maybe in California! The Liberals would have a fit—But their days are numbered.

If the islanders really wanted to rub salt, they could erect a statue with Baroness Thatcher on an elevated pedestal, with a Royal Marine Para representing 3 Commando Brigade, and a Gurkha, representing 5 Infantry Brigade, standing to her left and right, scowling menacingly to the West.

no, it was a Spanish colony, not German, though they had a large number of German migrants in the 1800s (just as we did) and in the 1900s...
