Via Legal Insurrection, between this and Krystal Ball’s Socratic dialogue with a five-year-old about gay marriage, evidently it was indoctrination weekend at MSNBC. The novelty here isn’t the sentiment, it’s the candor. Hillary made this same point more digestible for the public by ladling on warm-fuzzy sauce about a “village” raising a child together. (Similarly, don’t think of huge government programs as budget-busting liabilities. They’re Christmas presents!) Harris-Perry had 30 seconds to give her version of the same point; when you’re operating within those time constraints, there may be no way to make the pitch in terms less creepy than this. I almost want to congratulate her for throwing a word as clammy as “collective” in there. It shows a certain bravado.
Here’s your counterpoint, from 2011, on whether the U.S. is “investing” enough in education. Another half-trillion or so ought to turn things around, I think. No wonder Ron Paul’s getting into home-schooling.

I just do not understand what drives millions of people like Hillary Clinton and both the Obamas to loathe the system and culture that gave them such a good life and unlimited opportunity and has handed them such great success and wealth.
What drives them to prefer a different system for others?
What attracts them to a system that they never had to live under and one that has failed so miserably over and over throughout history?
What drives them to want to tear down and destroy the very system and culture that allows them to live like royalty?
People like them must have something important inside that isn’t properly connected or that doesn’t function correctly.
Yet a woman owns her body and can do what she likes with the fetus/child within her, because that’s her property (since I presume, she created it). Then, once it’s outside of the womb, it belongs to the state or community (even though the parents created it). Convoluted thinking.
Tell a feminist that the fetus/child within her body does not belong to her, that it belongs to the state and therefore the state can tell her she can’t abort it and just wait for the screams of horror.
Liberals think everything will go their way. Turn things around and they might just get it.
