(CNSNews.com) - The number of American workers collecting federal disability payments climbed to yet another record of 8,853,614 in March, up from 8,840,427 in February, according to newly released data from the Social Security Administration.
That means there are more than 3 times as many Americans taking disability payments as there are people living in the city of Chicago, which according to the Census Bureau has a population of 2,707,120.
March was the 194th straight month that the number of American workers collecting federal disability payments increased. The last time the number of Americans collecting disability decreased was in January 1997. That month the number of workers taking disability dropped by 249 people—from 4,385,623 in December 1996 to 4,385,374 in January 1997.

The tort bar has discovered how profitable repping these claims is. Here in Indiana there are tv adverts 24/7 about “getting the disaability benefits you deserve”.

Careful. The insane rise in disability claims is biggest in the deepest red states. Are they all legit? Of course not. “Ow, my back hurts,” boom $1000 a month.
Do as the Brits apparently have just done: require those on disability to report for a full medical check.
I believe that a sizable percentage of folks there didn’t even show up for the checks...which means, of course, that they were the UK equivalent of liberals.

They just opened a new social security office building in our town. The old building was small. They redid an old supermarket building here and it is now the new SS office. About 5 times larger than the old one. Passed by there the other day and the parking lot looked like a Walmart with all the people going in and out. A big Birmingham SS law firm, that we see advertised on TV all the time, has now opened an office right next door too the SS building. Go in. Not get what you want. Walk right next door to the lawyers and start your case. Easy as pie.
