Gun Vanity: Ruger SR1911, before leaving Connecticut
Vanity ^ | April 4th, 2013 | DTogo

Posted on 04/04/2013 11:21:42 AM PDT by DTogo

Looking at the Ruger SR1911 - while it's (still) legal here in CT.

Would also welcome knowledgable/experienced FReeper input on relocation options for those able to leave Connecticut.

Preferably somewhere warmer, but not sweltering, family/tax/gun friendly, with some elbow room to enjoy life. Overseas is not off the table.

My better half is suggesting Texas, even though neither of us have lived there before!

I was born in California and lived there for half a century before packing up the business and the family and moving everything to Texas.

The wife and I came down for a three day 'smell test' about a month before committing to come here, and that's all it took. The place reminded me of the California of my youth, when it was the best place on earth to raise a family or start a business.

We liked Texas from the very start, and our appreciation and love for the place has only grown over the seven years we've lived here.

Relocate up into the mountains of ‘The American Redoubt’ possibly? It is a fantastic place to live DT.

Retire from MO and live on Grad Lake...sounds good!

I can remember when a local car dealer in Miami, OK gave a lake lot away with each car sold. Times they change.

Y'all may not be wantin' to come on down Texas way. We ain't got no water. Been in drought for longer than we can remember. The lake got so dry that the fish decided to hitch-hike to Louisiana. Heck, even the possum are walking around with buckets, lookin' fer a drink. It's so hot in winter that Frosty the Snowman won't make an appearance on TV, and Santa does his deliveries wearin' a pair of jams and flip-flops. The cactus only grows in the shade of cedar trees.
Oh yeah, we got aintz....fahr aintz. An there's millions of'm.

You can come to Texas as long as you leave any and all liberal ideas behind.

Why would you say that to a fellow Freeper? It's hard to find people as conservative as we are.

For all the trash you hear about Louisiana, things are pretty good here once you get outside the N.O. area. Is it perfect? Nope.

I was born and raised in PA. Joined the military and spent time in GA, NC, KY, KS, Germany, SKorea, AL, MD and finished up with two years in PA. When I got out I found a job in Louisiana that was a pretty good fit and have been here ever since...almost 13 years now. I get back to PA to visit my folks once or twice a year, but if it weren't for them, I wouldn't look back, and they've said if they were a little younger, they'd consider moving down here.

There are some people that just cannot leave some liberal ideas behind. Yes, even FReepers.

That would actually be my choice, a family-sized log cabin on a grassy knoll with a fish-filled stream down front and forested mountains just beyond the back patio. I bet Jeff knows a place just like this for sale.

We may need to do a road trip first: TX vs. MT.

That's just idiotic on its face. Check a person's posting history before you insult them like that.

This gun bill may just make me give up the fight. These libtards around us, it is just pathetic.

I love country music, so I’m thinking Texas or Tennessee. Any place without a state income tax...

I’d argue that our ways and ideas are pretty much rural CT to the core. The trouble is, we have too many people who got their ideas from NYC or Boston (via college or relocation) and we got overrun. My town used to be pretty conservative with regards to the 2nd amendment, faith, economics. Since the late 80s it has slowly turned into West Hartford liberal-ville.

I still hear gunfire during the day or weekends and think “darn, someone out having fun”.

I went to WSU for grad school. Loved that area. I think I’d live over in Idaho though, even with the income tax. Too many atheists in western WA, one of the states with the lowest participation in *any* religion.

I like the adjacent area of Idaho, as well. Lot’s of recreation, decent weather, nice people.

I’ve often thought that Idaho would be a good choice and there are opportunities there, such as

I loved Idaho, and have traveled a lot there, but then again, I’ve figured out I am a ‘mountain’ person—some people have to be near the ocean or a river, some love the flatlands, others love mountains and hills. I’m the latter.

I’m in high tech, so I’d need to be near someplace that has those kinds of jobs. Texas has it, Idaho too. Even North Carolina is an option for me, and when I visited there this past summer I really liked the piedmont area. Great people, beautiful woodlands and hills, great music. What’s not to like?

I use to carry a 1911 IWB in Florida. It is fine with the right holster.

Check a person's posting history before you insult them like that.

I didn't say you or any other FReepers have a liberal posting history, but I do say there are some people that have one or more liberal (gay marriage, gun control, etc.) issues they support. We have enough queers in Austin and other large cities.

Thanks Windflier. I know where Arrowhead is coming from, but this FReeper will not be taking any Liberal ideas to another state.

Are you hearing yourself? You told a fellow Freeper to leave their liberal ideas behind if they intend to move to Texas. That's a flat out insult to any conservative. What makes you think that Freeper has liberal ideas? Did they post some? I doubt it.

I told you to check a person's posting history so that you know who you're talking to, and avoid insulting a decent fellow conservative the way you just did.

I don't. I could understand if one were posting that comment on a liberal board. You could safely assume that you we're talking to liberals in such a place. It's exactly the opposite here, so why the warning? It's an insult.
