Posted on 04/03/2013 11:42:49 PM PDT by Olog-hai

Republican Mike Lee of Utah on Wednesday became the 34th senator to oppose an international treaty that would regulate the $60 billion global small arms trade, giving the opposition enough votes in the U.S. Senate to block its ratification. …

“I have great concerns that this treaty can be used to violate the Second Amendment rights of American citizens, and do not believe we should sign any treaty that infringes on the sovereignty of our country,” Lee said. “I am pleased to join 34 of my colleagues in signaling to this administration that the UN-ATT is a non-starter in the Senate.” …

“Any treaty that you secure through the U.N. process is bound to impact the law-abiding countries and not the bad guys,” Bromund said.

Kinda like so-called "gun control" legislation.

Who was the 1st, Cruz?

I think Cruz and some others couldn't even be bothered with the silliness of having to announce where they stood on this UN obscenity.

The fact that *ANY* US Senator is willing to subscribe to *ANYTHING* the UN proposes regulating what we do here in our own land should be grounds for immediate removal from office.

Reports that the vote was 53 - 46, but does not name the Senators in favor. (At least not that I can see, but it is late...)

Yeah those democrat creeps were for it. and this democrat Obama also tried to take away our 2nd amendment rights by agreeing to this UN evil treaty. Have there ever been more evil villains than these Fienstien, Durbin, Obama , etc. ( the democrat party?) I think not.

Thanks for that list!

Anyone who voted “Nay” is a traitor, wanting to place our Constitution in a subservient position to the UN. The UN, where bloc voting is used to condemn Israel and the United States, while ignoring human rights abuses around the world. Sure, we want to be subject to the corrupt politics of that organization.

This should not even be an issue to begin. All Senators should be stating emphatically NO! The next step is cut off all US funding to the UN. All diplomats whom have any type of legal problem in the US, (diplomatic immunity my fanny) be arrested. Than the entire UN body be ousted out of the US. The UN building razed to the ground immediately. The UN is a joke.

Kirk (R-IL) is a RINO, yet he voted with the good guys on this one. Durbin (D-IL) voted with the bad guys.

It certainly puts to bed the notion that a RINO = a Dem. I’d rather have two Kirks from Illinois, than 2 Durbins.

The UN only passed it on Tuesday. I don’t believe the pResident has signed off on the treaty, which is required before ratification by the Senate. This vote was on a resolution signaling the Senate’s opposition to the treaty so we are safe, for now.

As an aside, McCaskill voted against it. Thanks, Todd, you tool.

Democrat Party = Evil Enemy of the State

UN = Enemy of the World

It is long past time to defund the UN and to get them the hell off US soil. A well timed Cruise would do the job.

Interesting that Donnelly (R-Ind) ran as a “blue dog” and actually voted with the Republicans on this one. He just got sworn in and is secure for six years. Not that he’s great or anything; this vote was probably meaningless as he saw which way the wind was blowing and his vote didn’t matter. I don’t expect him to break ranks when Reid really needs his vote. Just saying it’s interesting he actually did the right thing, for whatever reason.
