Gorush,
I watched my FIL die over the course of two years. He was was in his mid 80’s and very ill. The carte blanche medical proceedures that were permitted in his case resulted in a cost that exceeded the ammount of money he made in his entire lifetime.
On top of that, the whole process seemed very un-natural to me. I do not want that. My time is my time. I just want to finish well. Because of medical intervention, he did not finish well.
I am sad.
I am sorry...I’ve got some deaths looming myself. All you can do is smile at the memories.
so who permitted all these procedures on your FIL?...
you can't force care on someone if they are of sound mind or their poa refuses it....
it is sad...
I'm sad my mother had to die a slow death....I wish we had pushed her to get chemo and all that ...but it was her choice...
even though I am totally against prolonging life just because you can, there is also something called giving "hope" to the very ill....
Get a head start, exit now. Take some of your humanist/libertarian friends with you, heck throw an exit party.
A man has the right to spend every cent he owns and ever cent someone else is willing to give him on anything he likes including prolonging his own life.
But he ain’t entitled to steal that money or services from someone else. Now because your FIL was given that money(effectively) he didn’t do no wrong. His fight for life till the very end in my mind could be regarded as admirable.
You of course are entitled to a different opinion in regard to your own life. My family has faced similar issues, and most of us seems to have come to much the same conclusion you have. There is a point where it is better to go be with God than to continue to fight it at any cost.
