It's Almost 3 AM and North Korea's Calling
American Thinker ^ | April 3, 2013 | Thomas Lifson

President Obama has a situation on his hands where charisma and media support do him no good. He is dealing with a nuclear-armed regime with a history of military attacks, provocations as a means of extortion, and brutality. Now they have announced they are restarting a reactor that produces enough plutonium to make a bomb a year -- a reactor that had been shut down before as part of a previous deal in which the North Koreans got things of value in exchange for shuttering it.

Worse yet, the dictatorship is now in the midst of a possible power struggle. Kim Jong Un is a man barely thirty, if that (we don't really know for sure), advised by his aunt Kim Kyong Hui and her husband, Jang Song Thaek, reportedly taking power from military factions and giving lucrative sources of income, including drugs and counterfeiting, to party factions. Gordon Chang writes:

Every year, Pyongyang makes bombastic threats before the U.S.-South Korea military exercises. Then, the North Koreans go quiet when the drills begin. This year, however, the tantrum has continued and the words have become increasingly dire. This month, for instance, Pyongyang abrogated the armistice ending the Korean War and threatened pre-emptive nuclear strikes on the United States. The one-a-day rhetorical blasts suggest something is terribly wrong inside the North Korean regime.

Chang explains what he believes is happening inside the power circles of Pyongyang:

Sorry, king hussein is too busy trying to disarm law abiding victims to worry about some brat with nuclear weapons.

“Kim Jong Un, his aunt and uncle, and the entire leadership of North Korea know that the biggest object in their capital city is but a shiny façade over an empty and possibly hopeless interior. Imagine what they know about other problems in their country, and in their military.”

Kim’s got to hold onto power...without Him the whole thing folds....humpty dumpty type of thing...it all falls down.

I fear that some minor incident will trigger a large scale conflict on the Korean peninsula and Obama will bungle a US response or worse still will try to “negotiate” a peace.

You can’t really expect The Won to do anything, when he is so busy vacationing—Michelle in one vacation spot, the girls in another, and Obama in a third, as usual. Or if he’s back, he has golf and basketball and campaigning to worry about, not to mention posing for cover photographs. Plus Reggie Love.

You covered it pretty well but neglected to mention the tremendous confidence The Won has in his new SoS Lurch. **Shaking head**

If I were black, then I could say “N-word, please”....

This crap is all Kabuki theatre. Who in the hell thinks NK would do squat about their threats? No one in their right mind.

Regardless, little Kim or whoever he is seems to be more than a match to our Oresident and the imbeciles he has surrounding him when he ain’t golving.. It is almost funny.

Move some F-22s, move a couple B-2s, move an Aegis Cruiser (not a battleship like the news says), move some Ghurkas - hell I don’t care...it is all BS theatre to keep our minds off the gungrabbing bullshit this country is going through right now.

We need to walk quietly and have a chat with Peking. Dumb displays of B-2s, F-35/22 and cruisers only provoke the punk. Let China tame their paper tiger or suffer the fallout.

Obama is too busy installing his own communist/fascist regime in the US to get back to you, kim. Maybe he’ll get back to you after he finishes slaughtering 25 million or so Americans. Installing a communist dictorship takes a lot of work you know. Buying off or intimidating politicians, extorting business interests, subverting the rule of law, and recruiting willing fellow fascists takes a lot of work you know. Have to keep up with the maos, stalins, and hitlers in between vacations. Oh, and obama’s buddy ayers says we should murder 25 million or so people to get our point across, after we take away their guns. Wouldn’t want the revolutionary solders in the DHS to get hurt, now would we.

I wouldn’t if I were them. Look at what the NK have done with their actions, brought in US destroyers, long range bombers, ultra-modern fighter bombers and satellite scrutiny to the nth degree to the region, right off Chinese territorial waters and border..........

Correct.

The Norks don't have a nuclear weapon, they've exploded some devices, probably about the size of two semis. That's damn far from having a warhead.

Shooting a ding-dong 2 missile into the Sea of Japan and "hitting just the wave you were planning on" isn't that impressive either when every top scientist is working around the clock for a month in hopes that it doesn't explode on the launcher.

They could unleash a terribly destructive artillery barrage on Seoul, but this is all theater for NK domestic consumption making Kim Jong Un look like a powerful, adept leader.
