Pennington to run for (Ga.) governor?: Decision in 60 days

Gov. Nathan Deal hasn’t done anything really bad, says Dalton Mayor David Pennington.

“The problem is that he hasn’t done anything really good at a time when the Georgia economy has struggled much more than the national economy has,” Pennington said.

Pennington says he is mulling a Republican primary challenge next year to Deal and will decide on whether to run in the next 60 days.

“I’ve been called by quite a few people from across the state,” Pennington said.

Pennington campaigned vigorously last year across Georgia against referendums that would have created 10-year, 1 percent regional Special Purpose Local Option Sales Taxes (SPLOSTs) to fund transportation programs. Those referendums lost in nine of 12 regions, including locally, and Pennington said people he met during that battle have been urging him to run. He says he currently has 15,000 people on an email list that receive periodic issues statements from him.

“Obviously, these people are dissatisfied. But when you challenge a Republican governor in a Republican primary, when you challenge any sitting governor in a primary, that’s a tall mountain to climb,” Pennington said.

Pennington said he will be trying to determine how deep his support is.

“We have to be able to see some logical path to winning,” he said.

Well, I for one certainly was against more money grabbing with that TSPLOST crap....However, while Deal did support it, he accepted the vote on it, I believe.

I am much much more interested in getting a Georgia Senator to replace RINO traitors Chambliss and Isakson.

I am not for Phil Gingrey as an honest replacement for Chambliss, though. Still waiting to see who pops up to run I guess.

BTW, For the people in Gingrey’s congressional district and Bob Barr’s intention to see that seat, remember when this weasel lost his last election, he went to work as a lawyer for the ACLU.

we live in ga, too. i was pleased chambliss decided to step down. since then, isakson has been taking a more conservative stance, hmmmmph! he finally started answering emails, too. he is far less conservative than chambliss. he’ll be up in 2016.

I’m not as happy with Nathan Deal as I thought I would be. That SPOST issue stuck in my craw and now I find out GA is one of the 37 states that has eagerly applied to be a test area for drones. Unbelievable! We just saw one going down I-85 last week. I would definitely think about voting Deal out.

As for Saxby’s seat I’m voting for Paul Broun. Along with Tom Graves he is one of the hero reps that has been committed to voting no on all the stimulous deals and govt power grabs. He is a true hair on fire conservative. I don’t care if he believes the earth is a million years old or 10,000 years old. Who cares?

In order to fight these militant progressives we have to elect militant conservatives. Moderates just won’t cut it.

Rep. Paul Broun seems the most Conservative choice at present to succeed Chambliss. I expect the party establishment will go all out to stop him.
