A new coronavirus that emerged in the Middle East last fall could be deadlier than the SARS virus (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which killed 774 people between 2002 and 2003, researchers from the University of Hong Kong said.
Patients with the new virus experience multiple organ failure, which could explain its 65 percent mortality rate so far, the South China Morning Post reported. In contrast, 11 percent of the people who got SARS died.
The first victims to die from the new virus were a Qatari man in a British hospital and a woman in Saudi Arabia, ABC News reported. The latest victims were located in Germany and the United Kingdom.
A total of 17 people infected with the virus have been identified.
There is one glimmer of hope in battling the new virus: "It is not easily spread between people (unlike SARS)," World Health Organization spokesman Glenn Thomas told ABC News

As if we don’t have enough to worry about. The current regime, zombies and the apocalypse aren’t sufficient?
SARS was a weapons test. So is this.
The creeps can never resist furtively laughing of their victims. Check out the movie “Contagion”, and the producer’s location: Abu Dhabi.

From an ABC news report:
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/galveston-texas-biolab-loses-deadly-guanarito-virus/story?id=18809363#.UVEZgjeU9QI
The Galveston National Laboratory lost one of five vials containing a deadly Venezuelan virus, according to the University of Texas Medical Branch, which owns the $174 million facility designed with the strictest security measures to hold the deadliest viruses in the country.
Like Ebola, the missing Guanarito virus causes hemorrhagic fever, an illness named for “bleeding under the skin, in internal organs or from body orifices like the mouth, eyes, or ears,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“This is clearly an incident that is very discomforting and embarrassing to the University of Texas Medical Center and their national biosecurity lab that they have there,”
“...Fortunately, losing a vial of Guanarito is not as threatening as losing a vial of anthrax”, said Schaffner, a former president of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases.
You beat me to it! Thankyou for posting that info.

When a cell is critically threatened, accelerated genetic recombination (which may include virus proliferation) is just one of a set of events that may occur.
This set of events is called the SOS response, which is known to be triggered by exposure to toxic chemicals or radiation.
Arnold Levine, writing in Fields Virology, provides an example:
When lysogenic bacteria were lysed [split open] from without, no virus was detected. But from time to time a bacterium spontaneously lysed and produced many viruses. The influence of ultraviolet light in inducing the release of these viruses was a key observation that began to outline this curious relation between a virus and its host.
