We’re going to close National Parks due to Barry’s sequestration and then open five new National Monuments. Duh? You can’t fix stupid.

This is more of Obama using his powers as emperor to do the job Congress won’t. The big plus is putting more land under federal control. I didn’t see where they said these places would be open to the public, just that they will be.

Meanwhile the campgrounds along the Blue Ridge Parkway are opening late and some of the campgrounds and picnic areas in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park will not be opening for the season allegedly due to the sequester. I’m sure our overlords wouldn’t even consider leasing them out to a private company so they can remain open, and likely better managed.

We lose parks because of the sequester and he adds 5 parks?

At some point, there will not be a sequester (correct me please, I'm a little dusty about this sequester thingy).

Will the sequestered parks return?

If so, back to normal number of parks + a 5-park gain.

Government will control more public property?

I have a quiz for you Fred.

1. Which Prez designated the most National Monuments?

2. Which Prez designated the largest area(s) of National Monuments?

Hint: Both were republicans

Note all 5 recipient states voted Obama. There will no doubt be money and graft associated with these designations followed by more “donations” to the DNC. SOS. Most crooked CIC ever!

All I know is how happy I was with the Frank Church lockout.

Bill Clinton created the most monuments, nineteen, and expanded three others.

Jimmy Carter protected vast parts of Alaska, proclaiming fifteen national monuments, some of which later were promoted to national parks.

Don't know about designations.

I can’t speak for the other locations, and while anything bad could happen under Obama, I seriously doubt that the San Juan Islands would be closed to the public.

I can see the SW entrance to the Islands from my house. It takes about 3 hours for my boat to cruise to the Islands. It is very popular with folks with larger boats. The last time we were there we spent about a month going from cove to cove and in and out of that very beautiful place.

My boat is a very nice ( and fast ;>) ) 28’ RINKER, but compared to the big boys, it looks like one of their dinghies. The guys with the monster yachts would never stand for ANY closure of the San Juan Islands.

I just hope they don’t shut down sport-fishing in that area.

The guys with the monster yachts would never stand

And they all voted for obama. Right?

“And they all voted for obama. Right?”

They likely did and they may have even financed him.

I like your tag. There is a likelihood these designations have been in the works and it was a ho hum for obama. Unless his handlers can do a highlight on his sequester BS it is a nonevent. Except for the folks it directly effects.

And each national monument will have a sign reading “Really dedicated to President Obama “ . You know the guy who thinks he is bigger than life. Any money involved will go directly to him and his friends.
