Can't say I'm not pleased she lost her job too. I have no tolerance for thin-skinned whiners. She should have just turned around and asked them not be disruptive -- like a cell phone user in a movie theater. But no ... she felt compelled to "make a statement" and become a self-appoint PC-police-woman. It cost her. And that does not disappoint me one bit.

Yep.

She’s clueless, I’m sure, and didn’t think very long or deeply before hitting her “I’m OFFENDED!” feminist posting button.

Women like this are a plague in the workplace today in the US. The workplace ends up becoming a nest of covert, small networks that talk only behind closed doors or off-site. Productivity drops through the floor, talented people leave.

Women such as she started arriving in the tech industry in the last 10 years. The women before that knew tech and engineering environment were a boys’ club, and took it in stride, often giving as good as they got (and in so doing, whipping the boys into line).

The Politically Correct Feminist Warriors, however, aren’t looking for a fair shake or equal pay for equal work. No, they’re all about eliminating white males from positions of power, and they’ll use whatever they can find going on in the workplace, coupled with the usual cadre of harridans in HR, to make that happen.

The problem for her was that from then on NO ONE In the office would speak in her presence ~ not even her boss.

That is by far the best response. Don't say why you chose to shun such people, just avoid talking to them when it is avoidable and keep any essential conversations as brief as possible even if a longer conversation would be more productive. Anyone who files a frivolous complaint or lawsuit needs to be shunned by everyone decent.

WOW ~ we had this lady file a sex harrassment case against a fellow employee for saying sh== in her presence (this is in the gub'mnt where these people have a lot of power over your personal business) ~ he was punished. The problem for her was that from then on NO ONE In the office would speak in her presence ~ not even her boss.

She ended up feeling totally shunned and left for another job. Years later I ran into her at a social occasion. She tried to be friendly.

I said nothing!

Something similar happened to me (or should I say, to me and others) many years ago. I will preface by saying that I was young, stupid and single, I was the new guy in the office and didn't know what I was getting myself into, and the new rules of feminist correctness hadn't been set in concrete yet. But the first lawsuits had been successful -- and most employers had abruptly become hypersensitive and paranoid.

I complimented a young lady on the way she looked. Yeah, she was hot and she was wearing a short skirt. There wasn't anything raunchy or inappropriate about what I said, or the way I said it. I think my exact words were, "You look nice in that dress." Within 30 minutes I was called in for a meeting ... with the senior vice president and corporation counsel.

She had mentioned it to her supervisor immediately, and they were giving me a friendly but firm warning to leave her alone. It seems she had baited a supervisor into having a year-long affair with her. When it ended she claimed that she was forced into it, and sued the company. He was really great at his job, a very popular and effective small group leader and he was screaming like hell that she set him up, so they defended him.

Eventually there was a settlement. He got to keep his job and there was 11% unemployment, so it was a significant partial victory. But he was demoted and they had to promise that as long as she worked there, he'd never be promoted again. And of course she got a cash settlement of about $50,000. All this was history when I got hired, but it was very recent history.

From the moment I left that meeting, I actually started a shunning campaign much like the one you've described. She was just trouble. I found out that none of the women liked her either. In most cases they had really like the guy she had baited and then sued. And of course I became friends with him as well. After a while nobody, male or female, would even talk to this woman except work-related stuff.

Of course she complained to management and they couldn't do a damn thing about it. I doubt that they would have done anything even if they could. Eventually I was promoted and became her boss. The wall around her got higher and higher. Late one afternoon after everybody else had left for the day, I happened to be getting a cup of coffee and that senior VP walked into the break room. We had a friendly chat, her name came up, and the shunning campaign was mentioned. He didn't say anything about it. He COULDN'T say anything about it. But the look in his eyes told me that he approved.

About a year after that first "You look nice in that dress" remark, she couldn't handle it any more and quit. Eventually I moved on to bigger and better things. Years and years later, after I was married, I ran into her at a restaurant and she looked like ten years of crack whoring had taken their toll.

She said that she had heard I was working for a certain company (major manufacturer, good reputation, great money) and expressed her opinion that there was no way they'd hire somebody like me. I didn't say anything. I just smiled and showed her my company ID.

Burn.

"At the same time the country is becoming more libertine than a Roman orgy we are becoming more prissy than a doily in Cotton Mather’s parlor."

It's a paradox Bork noted in Slouching Toward Gomorrah, almost 20 years ago. He talked about Durkheim's Constant and how it was being inverted. What was once considered abhorrent behavior was becoming acceptable if not mandated, and behavior once found normal if not laudable was becoming increasingly marginalized, stigmatized or even banned.

When you hear a story of someone claiming a off color joke is sexual harassment there is no wondering that the accuser is a looser with no self esteme, hates men and blames them for their lack of ability and talent. Also most likely a crusty feminazi that after the first week on the job knows everything and thinks they belong in the CEO position. Yeah been there watched it play out repeated in my 30 years. Doesn't mean the bitches don't leave carnage in their wake, however.

I could just imagine the reaction of somebody overhearing "The daemon was spawning children faster than we could kill them" and such.

LOL... Then there's always "Finally got the parent killed off and it took forever to get rid of the orphans".

That's the way to do it ~ the message it sends is that the vast majority of people think too much of the EIEIO stuff consists of UNJUST LAW. Those who use those elements thinking they are getting ahead, or keeping others down, must be shunned.

In four decades of gub'mnt work I never once told a female, or a male, employee that they looked nice ~ had relatives who worked for the feds before ~ mostly in police-like work ~ they knew the deal.

Any criticisms you make of women must be directed at those at some remove ~ for example, Pelosi's beard, Debbie Wasserman Shulz's frizzy hair, etc.

What happened to “gentlemen (and ladies) do not listen in on other gentlemen’s conversations”?

What happened to "gentlemen don't discuss such things in public, certainly not in the presence of a lady?"

She is such a hypocrite! On her own website, she says that "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yankovic is one of her favorite songs. As a person who has been pigmentally challenged for my entire life, I am offended by her mentioning this rude, insensitive song title - I think I will sue her!

Great story! Often we read about the havoc these people wreak, and we don’t often read about how at least some of them get what they deserve years down the road.

Many, many years ago, a secretary in our engineering department went to HR. She was very upset over a conversation she overheard between a couple of Unix programmers. They were discussing ‘killing children’ and ‘flushing’ things down ‘pipes’. She was assured that these were technical terms and that kids weren’t being murdered. Even after that, she always seemed a bit uncomfortable around us.

Pretty funny. Unix has a lot of stuff like that. Disown your children, then kill them off later at you leisure when they've fulfilled their functions.

There's also a lot of stuff about masters, slaves and zombies. I can imagine the perpetually aggrieved could have  hard time around unix nerds.

Any package these days that needs dongles to operate is just killing their own business. You can't virtualize a dongles. Gongles gotta dangle. :-)

Did I mention that the day after she quit, the supervisor she had sued got a nice promotion?

Oh ... the karma in that whole situation was just delicious.

Gentlemen always assume a female is a lady until she demonstrates otherwise by her actions. Which I admit this female has done.

But I stand behind my assertion that these males were not behaving as gentlemen.
