Earlier this week at the PyCon conference (the largest annual gathering for developers using the open-source Python programming language) a woman named Adria Richards overheard a joke between two men sitting behind her during a crowded presentation.
Richards was offended and took a picture of the two men who were making jokes. She tweeted, "Not cool. Jokes about forking repo's in a sexual way and "big" dongles. Right behind me #pycon." She also attached a photo of the two people making the jokes.

WOW ~ we had this lady file a sex harrassment case against a fellow employee for saying sh== in her presence (this is in the gub'mnt where these people have a lot of power over your personal business) ~ he was punished.
The problem for her was that from then on NO ONE In the office would speak in her presence ~ not even her boss.
She ended up feeling totally shunned and left for another job.
Years later I ran into her at a social occasion. She tried to be friendly.
I said nothing!

If this was a episode of “Law & Order”, she’d be a murder victim by now. If the comments were not directed at her, she should either have said something, or found another seat. This is no reason at all for a man with a family to lose his job. Thin-skinned people are a PITA. Since it sounds as if she was also fired, maybe she learned a lesson, as well. Somehow, I doubt it.
