The Department of Educations sequester cuts are taking a brutal toll on federally-funded schools on Native American reservations, but the federal agency still found money to create a new six-figure job promoting Educational Excellence for African-Americans.
Johns had been serving as a senior education policy adviser to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Before that, he was a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellow in Rangels office. Johns salary in the new job is $123,758, according to a department official.

We could cut 30% and be just fine.
Democrats and Republicans love to spend money. The Senate is over there trying to keep the tours going which costs 75,000 a week and we are complaining about 123,000 a year. Both sides need a smack in the mouth.
Really? I'd like to see actual numbers showing that spending by any of these departments has genuinely been reduced. Our school board is always screaming about "budget cuts," when what that really means is "not as big an increase as we wanted."

That’s crazy. Have a few interns to shepherd the visitors through. I can’t imagine that the security precautions would be any different. The White House must have other visitors that come and go for business reasons where the security would still need to be in place.
