ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A poll shows New York Republican voters for the first time disapprove of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's performance following the Democrat's push for a gun-control bill.
The Quinnipiac University poll finds 55% of Republican voters disapprove of Cuomo, with 27% approving of his job performance.
In December, 74% of Republicans approved of Cuomo's performance.

No problem; with their enthusiastic support of Obama, Americans have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they’re willing to back a pol who believes himself to be emperor.
“In December, 74% of Republicans approved of Cuomo’s performance.”
What??? This is what’s wrong with the Northeast. Even “repubicans” are simply “RAT Lite.”
- NYC overwhelms the state,
- Skelos (Senate leader) is a Republican when he feels like it and that's not that often,
- Long Island is a financial cesspool that lost its GOP face long ago.
They can turn on him 100% and he'll still get re-elected.
Too bad they woke up to the realization of who and what Cuomo is so late in the game.
They’ll NEVER get those gun restrictions overtuned via the political process, the best they can hope for is that the SCOTUS still leans Conservative by the time the lawsuits progress to that level.
75% approval? Serves them right. Should be an object lesson for other states ...
“In December, 74% of Republicans approved of Cuomo’s performance.” DUMBASS New Yawkers! OK “New Yawk” “Republicans” GET IT THROUGH YOU DUMASS HEADS, THERE ARE NO GOOD DEMOCRATS, NONE!
NYC republican party members would be considered moderate dems (a rare breed) elsewhere.
Conservative Party in N.Y is what people would mostly call moderate to conservative republicans elsewhere.
dems in N.Y.are out-and-out Leninists anywhere else.
Republicans in New York are are a wholly owned subsidiary of the public employee UNIONS. Just another Big Government club that wants things done their way.
(OTOH-There are LOTS of CONSERVATIVES in NY. Ask them what they think of Jr Jack-Wagon Cuomo the Younger.)
Cuomo’s gun-grab is definitely not popular with well-heeled Pubbies of the country club set. Most of NY relishes the opportunity to partake in “The Shooting Sports”. Even Sen. Up-Chuck Chucky Schumer has a NYC concealed carry permit, like most well-connected Dem Pols.
Money and connections gets you the privilege to protect your family, your person and your property any place south of White Plains.
Read my tag line.
Cuomo has a long record of criminal corruption, particularly while he was the head of HUD. He has billions stashed away for his personal use. And he is the privileged son of another corrupt criminal politician, Mario Cuomo, the guy who invented the now well-worn phrase: “I’m personally against abortion, but. . . .”
I think most of their polling is done downstate. Up here in Buffalo and WNY he sucks. This is Paladino Country.
So...it would make sense that the GOP would want to nominate another NE RINO for 2016.
RINO COUNTRY!
NYC or statewide? If that’s a statewide number, they’re just demo-RATs, as with many other northeast states’ so-called GOP-ers.
I fled Steuben/Chemung counties 20 years ago and have never looked back, one of the best decisions I ever made. If NYC/LI were to split from the state then NY would be a solid red state.
OMG.
I don't live there anymore, but if FIVE percent of Republicans ANYWHERE approved of Cuomo, I would find it shocking.
Guess I still have a lot to learn.
I agree. We have been fighting this gun law and are making huge in roads all over except south of Westchester. I do not plan on being here much longer at all.
Yikes. That's quite an admission.
I'm figuring on staying here because, well, it's home. But I understand your position. It speaks the proverbial volumes.
Admission, yes. I have been fighting for 18 years with barely any successes. A red state is looking very inviting and also a state where they aren’t stuck in the 50’s.
In December, 74% of Republicans approved of Cuomo's performance. That's about 25 people, not counting Guiliani and Bloomberg.
