Hasta La Vista Assault Weapons Ban (Feinstein Bill Shot Down)
Breitbart.Com ^ | March 19, 2013 | Elizabeth Sheld

After a meeting yesterday with Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Dianne Feinstein learned that her controversial assault weapons ban mess will not be part of the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month.

The AWB could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2014. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation.

Backstabbed by Harry.

Not really. Reid knows that the entire bill would fail to pass if the Feinstein provisions were included. He thinks he has enough votes to pass the "universal background" check bill but if Feinstein's bill were included the Sentate would get nothing. He and Durbin have counted the votes and know they must face reality. Giving her the opportunity to offer her bill as an amendment will let her propose the ban and it will get "shot" down. That will prove his point and he can say the Senate has done "something".

If it wasn’t for white Christians with guns, Feinstein would be a lampshade...

Thank G-d for elections!

Yes, because they have worked so well. We shouldn't even be having these conversations if the people that are elected would abide by the Constitution.

Our Founding Fathers would have hung most of them by now.

Well they let Slimestein have her day in the sun before they shut her down. Dingy was never going to allow that POS unconstitutional bill be brought up for a vote. The votes just were not there. He can’t put those Dems who are up for re-election in the position of having to vote on a bill that will alienate gun owning voters. Dems own guns too.

I’m not cheering yet. I’m still worried about the magazine ban.

You are correct in your analysis. This is no victory for conservatives—only a successful defense on one piece of posturing legislation. The leftists lost nothing and Feinstein represented her voters with passion; something that will ensure she has an unassailable position in her next election and in her leadership role in the House. We conservatives gained nothing. Over the decades since 1936, gun owners have been subjected to increasing infringements and insults. We are even charged fees for our rights, in the form of permit and compliance fees.

The Heller decision, a milestone in restoration of human rights, is ignored by the left. Nothing improved for gun owners and the lack of consequences for the left emboldens them.

“One has to wonder why they are doing it”.
-—the Dems have NO trouble playing good cop/bad cop charades WITHIN their own ranks, and Harry Reid has played
an ever-more-prominent role in these hollow theatrics, since the advent of Barack Obama more than 4 years ago.
It always works out as a win-win situation, because in this case, it allows Harry to look like a responsible moderate, reminding her that we can’t look TOO rigid and ignore a segment of our constituents, and it allows Dianne,”fiercely principled idealist”, to hold a trump card and devoutly and privately hope that soon down the line will come a splashy gun crime where the perp used one of the guns she’s trying to ban.
WIN,WIN!

“The AWB could be offered up as an amendment...”

Be wary of this.

Remember something called the “Hughes amendment” back in 1968. I believe John Ross mentions this in his book, “Unintended Consequences”.

Tacked on at the last minute, overlooked, but with serious long-term ramifications....

I’m sure the leftists will find a way to bury it in legislation, somewhere sometime..

“Making the compromise palatable by comparison”
precisely defines the strategy the Left has used for more
decades than I know, to advance their Agenda. It’s the reason
long-time Hard Socialist Presidential Candidate Norman Thomas finally gave up running: he pointed out that the Establishment Democratic Party was so good at incorporating bits and pieces of the Socialist Agenda, so patient at waiting for them to be accepted incrementally, that one day we’d wake up and we’d be a Socialist Country. So he saw no real reason to tilt at windmills every four years when the Dems were doing his work for him.
Compared to today’s crew of bandits and thugs, though, Norman Thomas looks like a truly principled and accomplished man.But maybe that’s only because he was never actually elected to anything.

Joe, you nailed the gambit, play by play.

Pity our side rushes to throw our "extremists" under the bus instead of using those positions as a starting place for negotiations.

While the Left understands the tactic pretty well, and any horse trader knows you can get more if you start high and dicker down, the GOP tends to start asking for what it wants out of the deal and always seems to come up short.

“Backstabbed by Harry. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! “

Dont laugh so quickly. This bill is not permanently dead. RAT bills never are. This is being tabled because it threatens the RAT ability to take over the House in the 2014 elections. THAT is their TOP priority. IF that happens this bill will be back and shoved up our butts. Imagine a radical activist President with a RAT house and senate, backed up by a US Supreme Court with several additional lefty judges. The horror would be unimaginable.
