Hasta La Vista Assault Weapons Ban (Feinstein Bill Shot Down)

After a meeting yesterday with Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Dianne Feinstein learned that her controversial assault weapons ban mess will not be part of the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month.

The AWB could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2014. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation.

If this is indeed true, I'm not surprised. Those of us who have been in this game for decades recognize this play very well. Feinstein's bill was what got most of the press, the over-the-top, ban-everything craziness that is the hallmark of the Marxist left. Of course, this is doomed from the beginning, being just a false flag to lend credence to the followup approach, something much more 'moderate', such as the 'universal background checks registration' that Schumer has been pushing.

All very, very predictable.

it was intended to make the “compromise” palatable by comparison.

Yep.

GOP caught in a classic "rope-a-dope" again.

Yep, it's just part of the dialectic. The GOPe will jump at a bill that's "only half as bad."

In a just world, Feinstein would be nothing more than a village yenta.

Well, being from SF, wouldn't she be a 'Yentl'?..........

” Keep in mind that it was never intended to pass,

it was intended to make the “compromise” palatable by comparison.”

This was my thought as well.

Don’t let up yet, troops! Schumer’s bill is far, far worse than the AWB.

For example, once you register your firearm, if you have a roommate or landlord, you can’t leave the registered gun for more than 7 days since it’s not registered to them.

If you let someone borrow your gun, say while hunting, you are in violation if you don’t do the “transfer” through an FFL.

Shooting down DiFi’s bill is intended to put you at ease.

At least they had a few good tunes in the 70s

I’d like to get all schadenfreude about this, but there’s still a possibility that this is a trick. Get everyone mad about an outright ban, then slip in registration and taxes.

I guess we can just scrap thoughts about limiting New York Times to a single 100 word attack editorial per day.

That's good but there is stille this:

"...the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month".

We're a long way from being out of the woods.

This would be reassuring, except four years ago she could just as easily have written: "ObamaCare could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2010. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation."

You are so correct - they are no longer working for "WE THE PEOPLE". The commies have succeeded and it worked because half of Amerika are in a deep slumber when it comes to political affairs of the nation and state. More people know what is going on in their local communities only.

That’s what I thought from the beginning, but part of me thinks you’re wrong. Part of me thinks this is what it appears: A crushing defeat for the Tyrants. That can’t have it all their way all the time. It is possible, and likely, that you’re right, so we can’t let up.

That’s the problem with big government, we can never let up, relax, and live our lives. We always have to watch them. I don’t think that’s what God intends for us.

Roger that! Eternal vigilance against tyranny is required. Never trust a radical left wing extremist demokkkrat scumbag if they are not in sight. Hell, don’t even trust them if they are in sight. Gotta watch the rino’s too.

Don’t get me wrong, they would have LOVED to get that piece of tyrany passed,

but it was intended to make the compromise in the “next bill” look better.

I smell a head fake here. I don’t trust any of them.

Maybe Cruz. Rest of them are in it for themselves.

Mixed feelings on this. Obviously, I am glad it was defeated, but it would have been better if the Democrat Senate had passed it, forcing many Democrat sentaors in pro-freedom states to face the political consquences of voting for it, only to have it defeated by the Republican controlled House.
