(Fox News excerpt of AP)
VATICAN CITY Thousands of people are pouring into St. Peter's Square to witness the official start of the papacy of the first pope from the New World.
(snip)
The installation Mass is simpler than the 2005 ceremony for Pope Benedict XVI in keeping with Francis' style, but still grand enough to draw 132 official delegations and religious leaders from around the world, including the spiritual leader of the world's Orthodox Christians who is attending for the first time since the two branches of Christianity split 1,000 years ago.

Pope now takes the wafer. He now gives it to those who come before him.

Thank you for posting about the EWTN app! I was able to watch the last bit of the Mass.

Commentators before the Mass began said Francis would only be giving communion to the deacons. And he did in fact return to his chair after doing so.
Might have been my sleepy eyes but I didn't see anyone in the US delegation except Biden and that was before communion. I didn't see if anyone in the US delegation went to communion but if they did, they didn't get their photo op receiving from the Holy Father.

I was watching coverage on Fox News. Fr. Jonathan made it a point to say that the Vatican announced to all nations their intent for the ceremony, BUT did not invite any individual nation.
A very wise move, he left it up to the individual nations to decide if they wanted to attend, and who to send.

My goodness did you see when Francis got out of his jeep and went to bless the disabled man, the people were holding up. Put a chill up my spine even now thinking about it.

I didn't know that. Did Fr Jonathan say why Francis returned to his chair? I only caught part of the discussion before Mass and if I understood correctly, it was precisely because he knew proabortion and antiCatholic delegates would be present. But again, I missed part of that discussion.
Did you see anything scandalous from the US delegates in the coverage you watched?
To: PeevedPatriot
I did not hear any explaination just that Francis would only present the Euchrist to deacons. We got a very wise man on the throne of Peter.

Thanks!
I’m “peeved” that I missed the Mass. I was dead tired and stone asleep.
Going to start my rosary now.
Prayers for all here on FR & our beloved Holy Father Francis.

I hope so. I had to laugh though. Did you see him check his watch right before he exited the basilica and again when he turned to recess back in? He’s a clock watcher, that one :)
