Isn't this the place where they said a major eruption/collapse could cause a major tsunami that would devastate the east coast???

No that would be Tenerife however, this volcano has caused the largest tsunami on the east coast of the United States.

I was in the Canaries this past fall ( Lanzorate, Tenerife). Fascinating place and definitely ripe for any continued volcanic activity.

No known East Coast tsunami has EVER been caused by any Canary Island Volcano, and claims that Cumbre Vieja (on La Palma) might do so have been debunked by the scientific community, though it is constantly repeated by bad, hyped science documentaries.

I recall having seen at least one documentary that focused on an island or island chain off the west coast of Africa...I think it was the Canary Islands. The claim was that a huge part of the island *will*,someday, slide into the Atlantic causing devastation of epic proportions.
