On Monday, the federal Department of Veterans Affairs told New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to take his new gun law and shove it where the sun dont shine.
To clarify, Gov. Cuomos NY SAFE Act requires mental health professionals to turn over to the government the names of patients that may be at risk of hurting themselves or others, so that bureaucrats can then decide whether that individuals Second Amendment rights should be terminated and his/her guns confiscated.
Okay, to be honest, the VA didnt literally say, Shove it! But they did adamantly say that they would not comply with the bogus mandate because it further stigmatizes an already taboo subject, i.e. counseling and therapy, which would only discourage more Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and other psychological issues from seeking out mental health treatment.
Federal laws safeguarding the confidentiality of veterans treatment records do not authorize VA mental-health professionals to comply with this New York State law, VA Sokesman Mark Ballesteros said in a statement.
Under the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, federal laws take precedence over conflicting state and local laws.

These days one only needs to obey the laws one likes.
There are so many damn laws these days that’s what I do, I simply ignore the ones I feel are stupid, of course I weigh the risk and consequences.
Then why do my VA doctors and nurses keep asking me if “there are any firearms in the home” which is none of their GD business? Is it only in New York that this applies?
Take a Clintonian view.
You are in a hospital.
You have no gun there.
Home is where the heart is.
Ergo you have no guns in the home.
A perfectly correct answer.
“These days one only needs to obey the laws one likes.”
That’s very close to the truth. The law of man will be enforced through force and violence. But if I don’t like your law and shot you dead, your law has been nullified and mine is now supreme.
May you live in interesting times.
well the feds only do the laws they like and then sue states hwich enforce the laws .
So AZ.FL, etc get sued for enforcing immigration laws while MA ignores immigration law and then CO, WA now have drugs and the feds ingore that too.
You can;t even make any of this up anymore
I guess one of the lessons of the civil rights movements was civil disobedience to unjust laws.
And they just keep making more without any analysis of logical incompatibilities with all the ones currently on the books.
“You can;t even make any of this up anymore”
Exactly right, manc. The leftists want chaos and think they can control it, but they can’t. Chaos comes at you in ways that you don’t expect, and it can overwhelm and destroy you.
I’ve had to tell my kids at their age the dangers of the left which is sad.
Even took my oldest at 15 year old not to join and who is convinced to join the navy seals or marine recon and carry on the family tradition .
This military today is not what it was 15 years ago at all, the woman around the corner from me has a son who joined the national guard, his girlfriend had one baby and now pregnant and has neevr done a days work in her life but collects welfare.
He has never worked either and only joined he proudly states to get his free college and other freebies.
He goes into places here like chic fil a in his uniform to get free lunch and have a thank you for your service and the only place he;s been is Benning GA.
Times are different but as long as we raise our kids to be good Americans and conservatives then hopefully we can have common sense come back to America.
Take care sarge and have a nice weekend
That Federal Law is HIPPA!
“Ive had to tell my kids at their age the dangers of the left which is sad.”
Stand tall, manc. The hand of the heavenly Father is on your shoulder. He’ll help guide you and your children. I’m sure you’ll be proud of the choices your children will make.
Semper fi, buddy.
THANKS SARGE.
Off to enjoy Captain Morgan and I’ll have one for you pal
Ship your records out of state and access them electronically.
A dear friend has severe service related conditions and, if he lost his job, would be eligible for full military benefits. He is already recorded as having PTSD. They cannot take away his medical benefits. But, if he ever needs his pension, his PTSD diagnosis means his guns are gone, as are those of his wife, so he has just decided he will have to forgo something he more than earned. He hunts & fishes to feed his family and always has. There is pressure at his workplace, so he is already applying for oilfield jobs in North Dakota and Texas. Given his physical conditions, he should not do that sort of heavy labor, but he may have no choice.
It is disgusting.
At my last check up the Doctor asked me this, “The VA requires me to ask, are you Homeless or might you be Homeless in the near future.”
I told him it might be possible if my kids throw me out of one of the houses I own. Never been asked about guns, I would lie anyway.
