Gun Shop Owner Says Mark Kelly Has Not Completed Background Check For New AR-15

Washington DC - -(Ammoland.com)- Why did Mark Kelly pick a rifle for which he has yet to do a background check?

Kelly, a gun regulation advocate and husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, has explained that he bought an AR-15 rifle last week because he wanted to show how “easy” it was to buy an “assault weapon.”

Yet if that were really his purpose, why did he purchase a traded-in rifle for which he must wait 20 days–and for which he must still complete a background check? Why not purchase a new rifle he could have claimed immediately?

Kelly may have completed the background check process for the pistol he bought, but not for the AR-15. On March 12 2013, after Breitbart News contacted Diamondback Police Supply, the store where Kelly bought the weapons, the store’s owner Douglas MacKinlay provided the following statement to the media:

On March 5, 2013 Mr. Mark Kelly purchased a Sig Sauer 45 caliber pistol and a Sig Sauer M400 5.56 AR style rifle from my company, Diamondback Police Supply Co. in Tucson, AZ. The rifle, having been purchased in trade from another customer, cannot be released to Mr. Kelly or any other customer for a minimum of 20 days in accordance with local ordinances. Mr. Kelly did not ask for any modifications to the rifle, nor are we making any. Once the hold period is up, Mr. Kelly must then show proper identification, complete the Federal Firearms Transfer Record (Form 4473) and successfully complete the NICS background check prior to his taking physical possession of the firearm. Is there a chance Mark Kelly picked the AR-15 simply because he wanted it–at a discounted price?

Because he's a liberal loving idiot that doesn't deserve to wear the uniform of a commissioned officer that swore an oath to defend the US Constitution? I'm just guessing here...

Well, under the background checks being proposed by the dems now, given that he is probably a dyed in the wool demoncrat, he would fit the mentally deranged group which would be denied a purchase permit.

mark kelley giffords is a disgrace to this country and obviously forgot or never cared about the oath he took when he joined the Navy. But then again, he “joins” the ranks of lots of others who served and are liberals. (Which is confusing to me for sure.)And he disgraces the astronaut corps as well. Just a low life hypocrit now. Typical radical left wing extremist demokkkrat scumbag telling people what’s best for them. But not for he and other elites. Then to parade Gabby around like sarah brady does with jim brady is disgusting.

Besides the fact that he's lying about his intent (and if true, he falsely completed the Form 4473 for the pistol because he, as he says, didn't intend to keep it, but GIVE it away! lying on the very first of the series of screening questions).

The second aspect of this is that he, using his brain damaged wife's situation, is desperately trying to unseat the Queen, Sarah Brady as the new poster child for gun control.

Both are despicable, using their loved ones’ infirmities for personal and professional gain, and liars to boot.

Huh?
What purpose could that serve as a "local ordinance"?

Sounds like a “straw man purchase”, which is illegal, IINM. So were his statements about giving the AR-15 to the PD, instead of keeping it. He and his wife have become useful tools and fools, IMO, just like the Bradys.

There's a waiting period in Tucson? 20 years ago, a buddy of mine walked in and bought a surplus SKS and a bunch of ammo from a local dealer. He was a Texas resident in the military stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB at the time. No wait.

Is this just because it was traded in?

He’s finally realized he screwed up....likely why he didn’t complete the Form 4473 for the rifle.....Seems like he did for the pistol, so you WON’T be seeing him donate that to anyone because the act would prove he lied on the first question....a felony.....Rock and a hard place, Mark...Rock and a hard place. You now can’t claim shit or donate anything.....I hope you go to jail...I hope your state arrests you if you do.

Educated guess: Kelly chose a used rifle because there WERE NO NEW AR-15 rifles in stock. I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of that strange local ordinance, as it relates to traded/used firearms. Seems nonsensical to me.

It is probably to allow time to see if the gun is reported stolen or otherwise “dirty”. A pawn/gun dealer reports the S/N of the traded-in gun to the cops, and if no one raises any objections within 20 days, it’s probably legit to sell.

Kelly and his wife have set up a “foundation” for this purpose. Quite frequently “non profit” foundations are set up with a secondary (some would say primary) purpose of creating the opportunity to provide positions for family and friends at hugely inflated salaries and generous reimbursements for travel and other “expenses” such as vehicles.

Kelly, after a praise-worthy career, has willingly disgraced himself and shown that he is nothing more than a liar and a sneak — just what you want on your flight crew. I served with several “Mark Kellys” in the Navy. We soon learned to distrust and dislike them. They had no friends within the command and moved on quickly.

The guy has an excellent military record, trusted to fly to space by the government and lived a solid life - why should it be difficult for him to buy a gun?

They guy just proved how good people should not be limited in their choices.
