'That’s Not Fair & Balanced!': Dem Rep And Fox Host Get Into Fiery Exchange Over 'Demagoguing'
Mediaite ^ | 3/12/13 | Andrew Kirell

During a conversation about Republican Paul Ryan‘s House GOP budget plan, Fox host Bill Hemmer and Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen (MD) got into what can be described as a “fiery interruption-fest,” with the latter accusing Fox of not handling the topic in a “fair and balanced” manner.

About midway through the conversation, Hemmer dismissed Van Hollen as having just repeated “talking points” on the Democratic Party’s desire for a “balanced approach” to fiscal reform — i.e., spending cuts and tax increases. The congressman did not take kindly to that characterization.

“Don’t belittle statements by calling them so-called talking points,” Van Hollen said. “This affects people’s lives. And the reality is if you take the budget the way the Republicans in the House are presenting it, it will have a drag on the economy right now.”

When Hemmer attempted to present the Republican side of the issue by reading from Paul Ryan’s recent WSJ editorial, the two began to repeatedly interrupt each other.

“You can tell me what he wrote, Bill, but I read his article,” the congressman shouted over Hemmer, who insisted, “This is important.”

As the crosstalk continued, Hemmer took a stern tone, “I will ask the question and then I will let you answer,” before finally reading off the Ryan quote: “‘The other side will demagogue this issue. But remember: anyone who attacks our Medicare proposal without offering a credible alternative is complicit in the program’s demise.’ That goes right to the point that we are having right now.”

There must be some Obama memo out that states "Get In Their Face".

This seems to be a regular occurrence these days at FOX News.

I'm not much bothered by reps who, well . . . represent their constituents. Van Hollen’s people are government employees and assorted moochers.

What endangers our once republic occurs when Senators are indistinguishable from reps.

To listen to Pelosi or Van Hollen is to hear Durbin or Nelson of FL.

Which is why they weren't supposed to be elected by popular vote.

The reality is 0bama's policies have been a drag on the economy. The reality is that 0bamaCare will utterly destroy the economy. Keep talking, commie, a year from now you won't be able to show your face in public.

VanHollen has got to be one of the biggest hacks in the federal government. They just repeat the same manure and think they’re being compelling because the rest of the pee stream media repeats it verbatim, giving the Dem hacks an unwarranted sense of somehow sounding intelligent and substantive when all they’re doing is being mindless parrots repeating the same Obama White House crafted pablum. So VanHollen goes on Fox and gets an anchor who doesn’t fawn at his self-perceived cleverness of spouting “balanced approach” like the zombie drone that he is and he can’t handle being called on it nor that Hemmer isn’t dazzled by his “brilliance.” And keep in mind “balanced approach” in modern Democratic parlance means all tax hikes and no spending discipline. Good going Hemmer! Your only mistake was not telling this flaming a-hole to take a hike.

“Don’t belittle statements by calling them so-called talking points,” Van Hollen said.

I agree. These were real talking points, not "so-called" talking points. The pin headed conservatives just don't understand the nuances of Democrat thought.

Quite right. April 8th will mark the 100th anniversary of the horrible 17th Amendment.

Van Hollen is always a loud, fast talking big mouth...feel sorry for his wife having to live with him...

Maryland is one of the highest taxing states in our Nation..they are always looking at ways to tax and spend and hit the residents pocketbooks...

It's a pretty, clean state but I wonder how the resident tolerate their leaders..and keep voting DEMOCRAT...I avoid shopping there, even thought I live right on their border..

as for Bill Hemmer, he is one of my favorite FOX DUDES..at least he didn't let Van Hollen walk all over him....

They all boil over at some point. Look at the way O’Reilly made Colmes crap his pants. I’ve even seen Megyn Kelly get pi$$ed before. You can only listen to so much BS from the Dems.

Democratic Party’s desire for a “balanced approach” to fiscal reform...they got their balanced approach with a big tax hike on the rich last January - now it's time for some fair with a big reduction in spending for the government.....

Van Hollen is a hack but he is the very best they've got. He hasn't taken the time he should to consider the truth of the Dem talking points but has practiced them to perfection.

Typical successful lib. Not bright, no soul...but ambitious and very accomplished at peddling their lies.

Hemmer understands how to deal with hacks. Republican leadership does not because they are hacks as well.
