DENVER (AP) -- A gun control package pushed by Colorado Democrats cleared the state Senate on Monday, as sponsors described it as a needed response to Colorado's blood-soaked history of mass shootings.
One Democrat after another rose Monday to talk about restricting gun rights after last July's shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater. The vote came on the eve of an expected plea by the alleged gunman, James Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 people and injuring dozens more.
The measures approved by the Senate included a limit on the kinds of high-capacity ammunition magazines Holmes is accused of using in the theater shooting. Other measures included expanded background checks on private gun sales and a new ban on gun ownership for people facing domestic violence charges.
Republicans argued in vain that the gun controls would not have prevented the theater shooting, nor the school massacre last December in Newtown, Conn. Some cited the 1999 Columbine High School shootings outside Denver.
Democrats stood firm.

As if those who created the “blood soaked history” would give a rip about new gun laws. No wonder the folks think politicians are ignorant.
Sayonara, Magpul!
What a crock. I traveled much of Colorado for many years. I know the natives, especially away from the cities. They have been overun by many from CA since then, but I suspect the Commie Dems will pay a dear price at the next elections. There are a lot of hunters and shooters in CO.
Had all these bills been in effect, none would have changed anything about the Aurora tragedy.
This is just Democrats using a tragedy to gin up enough emotion for them to use to ram through part of their agenda.
Never thought this Rocky Mountain state would go weenie.
Live long enough, see everything.
Make no mistake, ignorance is not an issue with gun control. Their is a specific agenda and they know exactly what they are attempting to accomplish.
Not only have I’ve been following this debacle, I work for a company in Denver (although I work remotely in another state).
I’ve been forced to decide whether I want to stay on with this company, as they’re involved in the media branch, and mostly lib infested.
Time to go job hunting I guess...
“Never thought this Rocky Mountain state would go weenie.”
Yeah, know what you mean. But, as another poster correctly pointed out, the state has been taken over by Californians. These folks destroyed one state and are now bent on destroying another. Stupid is as stupid does I suppose....
Hi cap mag discussions are meaningless. It takes less than two seconds for a mag change. Furthermore anyone who carries should carry a spare mag in case of a malfunction.
This happens when you vote for democrats.
“One Democrat after another rose Monday to talk about restricting gun rights.....> of law abiding citizens <”
That should be the headline.
It ought to be a capital offense for liberals to relocate
From the bankrupt sesspools they created!
Magpul, I will buy dozens more of your magazines.
Essentially we have three types of Democrats. The naive, the honest, and the liar.
The naive and the liar is what they start with when they move into a Red state. Then when they seize power the liar starts being honest. Colorado had a ton of naive Democrats. That allowed the liars to take control. Now the question is if the naive Democrats will stop being Democrats and start knocking down the liars and the honest Dem alike.
Look to the Northeast. Sixty years ago Dems were a minority. Conservatism was fairly popular. Since then it’s been nearly eradicated there.
The purpose of the Democrat is to eradicate conservatism. Conservatism doesn’t exist to eradicate Democrats. So it’s a fight only they’re winning because they’re the only ones throwing the punches.
Please Colorado Tanker: Don’t confuse the Democrats with the truth. Otherwise, they would be Republicans.
Cry for me Colorado!
happens down on the south too, the locusts move on mass to the south from the north just as they ove on mass to CO from CA
They then want their drugs to be legal to get high whilst banning constitutional rights like guns.
It;s such a shame that these parasites move to the south and mountain states and then want it changed to look like the cess pits they moved from.
All they want is a hippie, druggie, homo, turd poking way of life and then shut freedom for the people away from Gvt and they vote for the Govt , a big Govt.
We need a wall alright, it;s on the Potomac and the border of CA
Lived here my entire life. A sad day for my state, a sad day indeed. :(
ses my other posts on this thread if you get a chance, I;m sick and others are too of these northern liberal druggie, anal sex feces loving, moving here and changing our states.
It sounds like CO has been infested too by those CA hippie peace loons/\
Here’s some help with a couple of misperceptions.
1. Most of the Coloradans I’ve met were environmentalists, animal worshipers, drug abusers, etc., paid either directly by government or by government-connected services. Most of them tried to give an initial impression or said outright that they were old fashioned and conservative.
2. Many of those moving in from elsewhere are from the northeastern states.
I suspect, from what we read about politics and other matters, that the same has happened in at least most of the rest of our country.
Baraq won Colo by 5.5 points.
I can’t ever see it going red again.
It’s an infection. A cancer. A pox on America.
Deny, Defy, Do not Comply!
Which of these laws would have prevented Holmes from boobie-trapping his apartment with explosives?
My 1911s have 7 round mags, Sigs and HKs have 13-19 round mags. Regardless of what I’m carrying, I always carry a spare mag. Mags are the weakest pistol component, especially in a 1911 platform.
The representatives of the Democratic [sic] party have expressed their hatred. I wonder how much hatred will be expressed right back at them, and what form, if any, it will take.
If governor Hickenlooper signs these - and there’s no reason to believe he won’t - I for one will not comply, period. First, I won’t be selling any of my firearms. If I decide to give one or more to my children or my wife, the CO government and the ‘rats in power can go pound sand. If I want/need more magazines, I will get them. My local Sheriff has already stated he will not enforce any laws that infringe on our 2A rights.
CO is now a blue state but not just blue but radcial socialist IMHO, lets face it the state has gone to the loon left like MA, WA, CA, and sadly the natives were infested and invaded by the CA loons looking to escape CA, if that actually makes sense to them
I am appalled at what has become of my once fiercely independent western state. Hopefully this will awaken conservatives that have been staying home and we can work on repeal after the next election. There is always a court challenge meanwhile, but I’m not hopeful the courts will inject reason and constitutionality into the process.

Not only California but large amounts of illegal aliens. One of my kids actually was not hired at a local McDonald’s because he was not bilingual.
And Magpul leaves for greener pastures...
Call and write these representatives today and tell them you want them to vote NO on HB 1224:

The most notorious massacres in
Colorado history were perpetrated by Democrats, if memory serves and really point out the need for citizens to be fully armed. Those massacres were the Sand Creek Massacre brought by Col. John Chivington (sp) and the Ludlo Massacre brought by the Colorado State Militia.
I was born in Colorado and my parents and son are burried there. I am considering moving them.
Exactly.
Cities are so out of touch with reality they eventually die.
The “little people” who live in the stick and face the uncertainty of life and the reality of the physical things in this world see much more clearly than the residents of the great cities.
When push comes to shove, we can exist independently. It has been so for many generations. Yes the skills have become dulled with disuse. But we can provide for our families.
I am not a prepper, but I have always had a garden, blackberries & strawberries, fruit trees and we can hunt. We still have wild game. Hogs, deer, turkey, dove and fish.
I decided in January that I would stock up on some reloading stuff for the guns we already have. Have got most of that in place in spite of the shortages. Probably will expand on some of the calibers we reload.
Do I expect chaos in the streets? Nope. Some of the families here have been friends for 150 years. My family and one other have that kind of relationship. Here in this county since 1889, but in another before that.
Some things don't change.
This is still Texas where I live.
Sheriff Makita of El Paso County has said, with support of just about every official in the area, that he will not enforce any law that encroaches on the 2nd Amendment.
Gun lovers in Colorado, it’s time to relocate south to your haven.
Game on.
What are these images from? Excuse me, but I haven’t watched TV in over 12 years and haven’t gone to a movie in about as long.
They look compelling and enticing, though.
Those images are from a show that wrapped up its run a few weeks ago. It was one of the very few TV efforts I loyally followed, and I enjoyed it immensely. The show was called ‘Fringe’, and it was essentially a reworking of ‘X-Files’.
“lets face it the state has gone to the loon left like MA, WA, CA, and sadly the natives were infested and invaded by the CA loons looking to escape CA, if that actually makes sense to them”
AZ is similarly threatened. They come to AZ and complain about the radicals taking over CA. Within 2 years are chsnging AZ into the same hell hole they left.
Cite all they want. The fact remains that there are 10's a millions of guns and billions of ammo that would take decades to go away.
If ALL guns were made illegal tomorrow and some how magically confiscated and disappeared, the bad guys would still have access to their choice of guns. There would be an underground market, much like drugs. It would either be an American underground market (think drugs), or clandestine imports.
The answer to mass killings - arm everyone. There is one thing that bullies and crazies understand - a .357 or 12 guage in their face.
It's way past time to show the idiot gun-grabbers how many times innocent civilians defend themselves with their legal weapons. I read it every day on this very forum - I mean EVERY day.
The MSM pundits and even the conservatives never discuss those statistics that are even supported by the FBI. The NRA and GOA have all the stats anyone needs, but they are never used in the debate. I don't get it. Self-defense stories should be the lead...
“We need a wall alright, it;s on the Potomac and the border of CA”
Instead of a wall why don’t you tell your relative in San Fransisco it’s ok to come home now and he can bring his husband too....all is forgiven!
BTW I come from a pioneering Colorado family whose youngest daughter moved to California before the turn of the 19th century......up until ~15 years ago the family ranch/town had its own zip code......
All you California haters remember that California was once a reliably Republican/Conservative state until the emigration from parts east, south, north, and mid west to California in the 60s & 70s...these people were not all Dems/liberals, but they brought their go along ta get along rino republicans friends with them and thereby ruined this state politically and soon economically....you can help turn this around by taking all of your crackpot friends and relatives back home!
Might I also remind you that this forum is brought to you courtesy of a Conservative Californian in Fresno,Ca?
Take head, Texas Fossil. This can happen to you if you keep importing New Yorkers and Cali fleeing people.
IMO, the problem is not keeping or acquiring (for now) more banned items, the problem is using them. A thug breaks in, you drop him with a pistol that has a hi-cap magazine or one of the eeeevil black guns and you are an instant felon for possession of banned firearms.
