Thousands of dead pigs have been found in the Huangpu River since last week. A report on the Chinese news portal Xinmin.cn, said that 3,323 dead pigs had been found through Sunday night.

Shanghai authorities said they believed flotilla of pigs came from neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and had been dumped in the river after they died. More than 20,000 pigs are reported to have died since the beginning of this year in Jiaxing alone, where a pig breeding facility is located about 50 miles to the west of Shanghai at the upper reaches of the Huangpu River. Some of the pigs had ear tags identifying them as coming from Jiaxing.

Swine flu?

Could be...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

at least one pig tested had died of porcine circovirus type 2, but that the virus did not present a risk to human health or threaten the drinking water.

Hogwash!

It’s bad enough that the carcasses landed in the river...but I’d like to know the cause of the pig die-off. Wonder if it is the next swine flu gearing up to hit us....

That thought occurred to me as well. That’s a pretty good-sized die-off, 3,000 pigs.

Yeech.

The article says 20,000 since the beginning of the year. They've *only* found 3,000 in the river.

Wish they could make better use of the carcasses, like burying them in Muzzie graveyard.

DROWNED PIG - Main ingredient in pet food packaged for American companies. Label will read: Variety of meat

I would not be surprised if it is also found in human food products.

Very likely so. For many years, rendering trucks would pick up dead animals and grind em up for feed of some sort.

“Swine flu?” Swine can’t flew cause unlike buffafloe they have no wings and pigs can’t fly even if they can flee the flu to avoid the flue and fleas.
