House GOP leaders blindsided by defections on spending vote
The Hill ^ | March 10 , 2013

House Republican leaders have a new problem. They can’t count on their members to support them on procedural votes. Sixteen Republicans defected Wednesday in a vote on the rule governing consideration of a government-funding bill meant to prevent a government shutdown. The defections could have caused the rule to fail since most Democrats voted also voted against it. Even more striking? Seven of the Republicans who voted against the rule then voted for the funding bill.

DUMP BOEHNER NOW!!! NO MORE SPENDING MORE THAN THE GOVERNMENT TAKES IN!

It's high time the budget was CUT to bare necessities only and the budget was BALANCED w/o more taxes.

We do not have a "revenue" problem. Our government has a SPENDING problem! It's time to take away the checkbook and make it live within its means.

Love your idea. If they cannot stop their spending it would be great if America could send them all home for about twenty years (all of them) including all of Congress, all the staff people, the SC and staff, the _resident and all staff, all department heads and staff. The Constitution calls for one thing and one thing only and that is Defense. Send everyone else home till they get their heads on straight. I know am dreaming but to quote Martin Luther King ... I have a dream!

That CR came to the floor in just 48 hours and fully funded ObamaCare. Only those 14 earned my respect.

So, the RINOs of the Stupid Party are not in complete control after all.
Good.
We need a HUGE RINO hunt ‘twixt now and 2014.

They don’t even get the name of the series right on Netflix.

Everyone should watch that series. House of Cards. I really believe that is how Washington operates.

16 is not nearly enough, especially while the drunken Boner is willing to use Democrat votes to pass the Sandy pork bill, the CR, and even illegal alien amnesty - which mark my words he WILL do if this bastard is not removed.

A little bit of revolt...very nice. Something to build upon, finally.

RINO is no longer an appropriate term. They are the GOP. This is what the party has become. If you don’t believe look at their leadership and their actions.

The good guys are clearly in the minority.

I advocate defense spending only, as the Founders intended. The commerce clause (imho) has been used repeatedly to cover all entitlement programs, probably even the obama phones. I do not advocate for a chavez, instead I advocate for a balanced budget, no borrowing from foreign nations, and the priorities being defense as was contained within the original documents. Everything else be danged. If our government officials would return to the Founders intent, over seventy percent of these government officials would have to do something else besides rob the citizens. Robbing the citizens, whom have paid, is the constant refrain these days. Then comes the constant refrain of we have to do something ... this is not fair ... so then our government decides ... throw more money at it. Never works in the long run but hey why worry. Just throw more money at it. Insanity in the n-th degree.

The country would flourish beyond our ablilty to imagine. The rising tide would lift boats over the housetops.

Ironically, even our talentless politicians would be better off. But they’re too stupid to even act in their own best interest.

Yes, and what is clear is that there is no room in the GOP for the good guys or their conservative principles. Ron Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and a couple others stood for principle this week while their colleagues conspired with Divider-in-Chief. And of course Boehner pused through funding for Obamacare.

The Old Guard is not going to give up its comfortable position in DC, and Jeb Bush is waiting in the wings to be the new standard bearer who will maintain the status quo.

I’m done with the Republicrat Party.

I’m afraid the building will have to take place outside the framework of the Republican syndicate. There no good soil there to grow the tree of liberty.

Yes, outside of the framework, but not outside of the party - I think we do have the numbers to start pushing the leadership around a bit and they will either listen or find other work.

The Tea Party provided critical support to the Republican Party in 2010, and then once assured of its majority in the House, promptly turned its back on the Tea Party. That is the kind of status quo people who are running the Party.

With all due respect, don’t kid yourself. The Party is not going to get pushed around. The GOPe is deeply entrenched and I can assure you it has plenty of comfortable backers with significant resources. The GOPe will adopt a more conservative tone before the next election and then it will be right back to business as usual. As the old adage goes, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I look at someone like Scott Walker and can’t help but wonder “what on earth does he have in common with the Republican Party?” Walker stood on principle and won amazing victories and you’d think that would have resonated throughout the Party. But alas, it’s just not the Republican Way.

One thing I admire about Democrats. They play to win. Nothing will ever change until conservatives realize that to win, you have to be stronger and smarter than your opponent. It’s got to come from the gut.

Sorry for the rant but I’ve just watched this movie too long and it always ends the same way.

I am trying to point out to everyone that the term RINO is obsolete. As long people continue to use that term it implies there are only a few bad apples and the core of party (and leadership) is good. The term provides cover for the leadership to do as they please and have turds like McCain and Graham to act as heat shields. The reality is the party is rotten to the core. There are a few good guys left (Cruz, Paul, Lee, Amash, and a few others) who should form the core of a new party.

If the good guys would get together and leave in unison for a new party, they would be doing a greater service for their country.

Agree with your post. The Republican Party is by and large a bunch of appeasers more intered in their comfortable life in DC than standing up for our liberties and promoting responsible government. As elections approach, they give lip service to conservative ideals just long enough to get their money and votes. Then after the election, its back to the old status quo and businesss as usual.

With elements of the Tea Party and some promising good guys stepping up to the plate, we are getting ever closer to the critical mass needed to form a new party.
