How typical of the Left to idolise a despot who gloried in attacking America and Britain
Daily Mail UK ^ | March 6, 2013 | Michael Burleigh

Scenes of mass grief and hysteria have accompanied the deaths of many dictators, from the Soviet Union’s Josef Stalin in 1953 to North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il in 2011.

The public mourning in Venezuela following the death this week of the country’s Socialist President Hugo Chavez from cancer at the age of 58 will be played out for weeks.

The Venezuelan people have been whipped into hysteria by the propaganda of the sinister — and aggressively anti-American — political machine Chavez left behind as his legacy.

The complete collapse in law and order in his country meant crime spiralled out of control, with an average 16,000 kidnappings and 18,000 murders a year, many related to a thriving trade in drugs.

The capital Caracas has a murder rate that dwarfs Baghdad and Kabul combined, and the country is one of the deadliest on the planet with 160,000 murders during his time as President — a four-fold increase on the period before he took office. But you will never hear this on state TV or radio, because they were, of course, Chavez controlled.

About $1 trillion dollars of oil revenues have been squandered in an attempt to build what Chavez called ‘21st-century Socialism’. This regime has so much oil wealth it does not have to account for how it is spent.

Yet, there are chronic food shortages and the infrastructure is crumbling, with collapsing bridges and potholed roads. Electricity supply is erratic.

The common denominator between Chavez and all those he supported, and who now worship him in death, is not a passionate belief in improving the lot of the poor through Socialism. It is an atavistic loathing of America {Just like Barack Obama} and, by proxy, Britain.

Chavez was everything that the Left says they despise.

But he hated America so they over-looked everything he was.

It would be sad to belong to a group whom had no unifying values except hate for your country.

There is a good chance that when I die Stalin, Hitler, Mao, a Jong Il, Che, Franco, and one day soon, Fidel, will still be dead. Hugo tambien...olor del azufre, Chavez?

Oh, off topic, I'll pee on Fonda's grave too.

Actually I have a high suspicion the real reason the Hollywood left was so into Chavez is strictly for cocaine. Of course they are into socialism, but like with Castro I think they were trading propaganda for coke which is why coke fanatics like Penn and Oliver Stone are at the forefront. I didn’t buy into that at first until coke hos Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell visited Castro then the lightbulb went on. Just a bunch of pathetic junkies that’s all they are. I wonder how much of that white stuff Stone got for the huge propaganda he did on Castro a few years ago. That must have been a couple pounds.

Hey, and don't forget Bubba Clinton who's half-brother once said of him that he had a nose like a vacuum cleaner. Look for ole Bubba in the crowd at the funeral.

Liberals are in thrall to dictators like Chavez, Castro, etc. They have a jones for the same kind of absolute power.

I tell you, I think that is exactly why they go down there and visit. Think about it: Hollywood multi-millionaires living in the lap of luxury, why the hell would they waste their time flying all the way down there to promote some 3rd world dictator? To show that “socialism works”? To “help the poor”? What kind of BS is that? No, they’re going down there to score. To get the pure stuff. That’s why Wyclef Jean was bashing Sean Penn about doing cocaine. Where did he get that from? He didn’t say weed, heroin, alcohol, he said cocaine because he saw him doing it.

Once you read about how people were still praising Hitler’s insanity even as the Soviet Army was charging into the Reichstag, you’re no longer surprised when dictators have millions of fans when they pass on.

No, there's no accounting because it's a single party state.

“They have a jones for the same kind of absolute power”.

Absolutely right. No one knew it better than the great Arthur Koestler, who wrote “Darkness at Noon”, surely one of the great anti-Communist novels of the 20th Century, AND one of the greatest titles for a novel EVER.
The oppressed , said Koestler, long for nothing more
than to slip into the shoes of their oppressors.
In our time, and unfortunately,in our own benighted nation,
someone like Obama can come along, and far from being truly
oppressed, can make enough of a sneaky case for himself that he should be elected President on that pretext. And he can succeed ,TWICE, in that enterprise.
