Officials: 80 Percent Of Recent NYC High School Graduates Cannot Read
CBS NY ^

It’s an education bombshell.

Nearly 80 percent of New York City high school graduates need to relearn basic skills before they can enter the City University’s community college system.

The number of kids behind the 8-ball is the highest in years, CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Thursday.

When they graduated from city high schools, students in a special remedial program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College couldn’t make the grade.

They had to re-learn basic skills — reading, writing and math — first before they could begin college courses.

That is because they did not have Head Start.

Say no to testing.

That’s okay as long as they don’t drink a 2 liter soda with their pizza.

Remedial reading programs at a college seems a little stupid to me. Remember when you had to be smart to get into college, even a community college?

Liberals wouldn’t think 100% failure meant anything, either.

After all, these are people who support - in the name of peace - a political system that murdered 200 million people in the last 100 years.

Illiteracy isn’t even on their radar screens.

And 80% of teaching efforts go towards keeping these idiots in school so that the schools can generate revenue for their attendance. The whole education effort has been convoluted to this purpose.

Here’s my modest proposal for education reform.

We have been discussing ways to fast track kids through high school to avoid the liberal agenda and other idiocies:

What is worse is that many highly educated people don’t understand common sense.

Tons of knowledge, little wisdom.

Right. As long as the kids come out understanding that Heather has two mommies, and that they have to hate the 1%, why should they need something so irrelevant as reading skills?

Sounds like good material for a class action lawsuit.

That’s normal. Eighty percent or more of mainstream media journalists can’t write.

No way. How could this be with No Child Left Behind testing these “graduates” all through their schooling? You aren’t supposed to “pass” unless you are proficient in the skills taught.

What are the demographics of the public schools in NYC?

Think how bad it would have been if teachers were not unionized or if budgets had been cut.

Obviously, the solution is stronger unions and more money!
