Scenes from the Sequestrocalypse: TSA to spend $50 million on new uniforms
Hot Air ^ | 3-5-2013 | Ed Morrissey

Say, are you getting frustrated by long lines at the airport? Janet Napolitano wants you to know that the sequester is to blame for your woes. .....

"Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on Monday cautioned airline passengers to get to the airport extra early because U.S. spending cuts have already led to long lines at some security checkpoints, and said the coming furloughs will only make the situation worse.

Napolitano said mandatory spending cuts ordered on Friday by President Barack Obama have led to the elimination of overtime for Transportation Security Administration officers and customs agents. She said TSA would begin sending out furlough notices to employees on Monday. Hiring freezes have also prevented any open positions from being filled.

“We are already seeing the effects at some of the ports of entry – at the big airports, for example. Some of them had very long lines this weekend,” Napolitano said at a “Politico Playbook” breakfast event.

She pointed to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as examples of those with long lines.

Napolitano said delays were between 150 percent and 200 percent at certain airports, although the TSA website did not show any major delays at any U.S. airport on Monday morning."

..... DHS signed a $50 million deal to buy uniforms just before the sequester hit, some of which will be made in Mexico:

Not enough money to police the border, but just enough to look snappy not doing it. This woman is a disgrace.

Since knives will now be allowed on board (see other news articles today), why not reassign all these nice “homeland secy” folks to some useful jobs where they’d be happier anyway, or?

They could then wear their pretty new uniforms while, say, keeping our national parks clean or (shudder!) Even patrolling our border maybe?

Border agents already had plenty beanbags at their disposal, I guess.

Don't ask about the purpose of new DHS purchase (ammos and light armored vehicles). Ed Morrissey had a new piece up (hint: no conspiracy!)

That is exactly DHS's intention, soon they will be Barry's civilian defense force. Coincidentally the new uniforms have brown shirts.

As they get older and fatter they will, of course, need new uniforms. And the little do-dad insignias that show they made a higher pay grade.

These are new uinforms, not for TSA agents for Obama’s new army. Recruiting gang members (Farhakan sp), 2700 armored personnel carriers, 1,000,000,000 bullets.

Nothing to see here folks. Just keep moving. More crazies from the gvt.

This guy is putting together an army for his personal use, just as he promised in the first election.

Are these the uniforms with the brown-colored shirts, or the snappy all-black ones with silver buttons and red armbands?

More Cherry Picking to make the sequester look bad.

Napolitano has plenty of money to buy 1.6 Billion bullets and 2700 civilian tanks how many AR16’s along with how many drones?

If they are true “officers” and not just glorified baggage handlers (which they are), officers buy their own uniforms. They may or may not have an allowance per year for such.

Like I said earlier, (link on HotAir) Ed had explained the purchase (article from NRO).

"There is nothing for us to worry about. We can trust our own government." Besides, What . Difference . Does . It . Make?
