In the back of my mind, I wonder if deep down Kim Jong-Eun wants to transform North Korea, but he knows he can’t do it all at once, but a little bit at a time.

I could be wrong, but I sense that he isn’t as nutty as his father and grandfather. But at the same time, he just can’t change things overnight. It might take 5-10 years before he’s finally in a position to do anything significant.

I doubt NK will collapse while China keeps it propped up.
China may allow it to waver but not topple. At this point only China can change NK.
