I was in the Army in the late ‘80s to late ‘90s.

We called the standard magazine exactly that - a magazine.

But we called the 30 round magazines a ‘banana clip’. Like so many things dealing with guns, nomenclatures are mis-used repeatedly until they become normalized.

I’d love to know what they’re called in the Army today....I’m guessing banana clip is still used.
