I came to the conclusion long ago that these Sunday morning talkshows are not ratings/viewership driven. They seem to have a relatively consistent number of viewers week after week. They seem to be just filler material as an alternative to religious programming.

That is the reason they survive with the same ole weekly guests and same ole topics/issues and same ole agenda positions.

I haven’t checked their ratings/viewership numbers in a long while, but, IIRC, the most watched only gets about 3 million viewership.

A quick google search showed CBS’s Face The Nation as #1 with 3.37 million vewers

Back when I worked in the lamestream media shows like this were referred to as “prestige items” by ad sales types. Pretty ironic that an hour of lies, half-truths, circumvention, empty punditry, demogoguery, and ego-venting, etc., comprises “presitige” in our lamestream media.

Anyhoo, Jindal is pretty good today.

Obama and the Dems are sending the message that any government cuts, however small, will be a disaster. It reinforces their message that we don't have a spending problem, but rather, a revenue problem. Increasing revenues will reduce the deficit--or so they say.

That said, I believe both parties don't want to see a reduction in spending or even the growth of spending. When you have the Reps echoing what the Dems say about how painful the sequestration "cuts" will be, they are just reinforcing the Dem message.

I fully expect a last minute deal using some accounting gimmick to nullify or nitigate sequestration. It will be another Rep cave or rather another "Good cop, bad cop" charade. Then it is on to the next "crisis," the continuing resolution.

In the meantime, we have a three ring circus with gun control and immigration garnering media and public attention. It is part of the Dem strategy to divide and conquer and overwhelm.

I thought the MSM used these shows to construct the bat they would use to beat Pubbies about the head and shoulders for the following week.

I like your idea of calling this The Obama Sequestration for a big reason.

Looking ahead to the likely ramifications of the tax increases passed a couple of months ago, the economy will be slowing even further. Like many here, I don't really think these pending cuts are more than a drop in the bucket. The way this has been set up, the implementation of the sequestration accomplishes cover for Democrats, something to blame a slowing economy on. As the Obama team has been successful (thus far) in turning the sequestration into a Republican idea, guess who will be blamed when the economy goes from bad to worse?

About the only political win I can see for Republicans is to use the successful Democrat strategy of repeating a talking point over and over again. Thus, this should always be referred to as "The Obama Sequestration".

No doubt about it. I think they also use the shows to try to make celebrities out of their own half-wit on-air “personalities,” dreary dolts like F. Chuck Todd. The shows also certainly serve to advance whatever the going Orthodoxy of the Moment happens to be.

Oh the sacred Orthodoxy!

Here's what the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said on Friday.

Now when they recycle plastic bags or shut down a coal plant they believe they have saved the earth and millions of people because they saw a movie by Algore. They believe it with every fiber of their body, soul and minds so they will lead their lives in any manner the rulers say to save their gods. They are actually accomplishing nothing since plastic bags or coal plants have absolutely no negative effect on the world, but they want to believe they are saving the planet when in reality they are damaging it by not managing and developing it properly.

Once language starts turning bad it just keeps turning. To wit: the phrases Save the Earth or Save the Whales or Save the Planet all follow from the hackneyed “save a life,” “save your life,” etc.

But of course it is not possible to “save” anyone’s life in the way the phrase is used—you can only “extend” someone’s life with CPR, pulling them out of a burning building, etc.

Christians understand the only way a life can be “saved.”

But the word and the concepts were stolen from us long ago, and thus is the distortion now “truth.” And so it shall go with the “planet.”

—Which, I once heard, will become a barren nothingness 5 million years from now when the sun burns up and there ain’t no saving anyone from that.

I believe timidity on our side plays a large part. Candidates keep the gloves on, and try to be nice, hoping this time, this time, the media will show them in a likable, favorable light. 'Aint gong to happen, ever.

My way or the highway ism. This one is tricky. Like trying to train a dog to come to you, by slapping him every time he gets close.

Complete arguments get boiled down to shorts bursts of words, designed to get between the time brackets which the media controls, and then get dismissed outright, their true definition being "translated" by the same media that just loves us.

Also, the "bringing a knife to a gun fight" syndrome when debating, or being presented, with the opposition, at a given public forum or in the media. We look for fighters to back in elections, but get only sheep from which to pick.

I heard Boehner say that I was really wondering why. Then I started thinking that perhaps he's trying to get zero to meet with him so they can discuss the obvious targeted cuts but that would cut zeros legs out from underneath him so I don't see that happening any time soon.

Truth is budget cuts are like holy water to the dems.It destroys them.

When the day comes that they can't buy votes with our tax dollars they are through.

Not only that but they also use the shows to get ahead of anything that Rush may come up with.If the can kill off what Rush will say on Monday or Tuesday on Sunday they are waaay ahead. They seldom do but keep trying.

essentially “feel good” time wasting. the mental health checks would require permanent records and “recertification” because people can “go insane”.

“Obama spending cuts.”

I’d like to see someone start with why we even need to increase current
spending.

These “ cuts “ if I understand it correctly are additional spending over and
above the current levels.

In our personal lives we are required to wisely spend what we have, before
thinking about spending more.

The MSM ignores this basic point to make it sound like some heroic act , with
dire consequences.

How have we operated at current levels without having to shut anything down.

e.g. any of the scares related to airports....

That should but won’t be asked.

It looks to me like the FNS panel fouond a decent member in Nick Ayers to cover when The Kraut isn’t there. With Kristol whining and crying about the cuts, Mara with her raccoon makeup, and the egotist Bayh talking only about himself, there was, at least, one rational voice there.

Wish I had known about this site:o( I have found that most liberals only have talking points.....they cannot argue their points. Most will just brush you off with another talking point and change the subject.

I’d like to see someone start with why we even need to increase current spending.

Entitlements, other "mandatory" spending, and debt servicing costs comprise almost two thirds of the budget. They will continue to go up as our population ages and our national debt increases as we continue to run deficits.

Unless we rein in the welfare state, we will not solve our fiscal problems with spending cuts from the other one-third of the budget.

I wish these genius pundits would/could get it through their thick skulls that federal budget cuts have NO-NO-NO-NO effect on the firefighters who in 99+% of cases are paid by local and state funds. And teachers-— same story, and others.

In addition, the cuts amount to less that 3% of our bloated budget which could handle a 10-20% pruning without pain.
