Commerce: In his State of the Union address, President Obama announced talks with Europe for the most ambitious trade partnership ever attempted. So how come it doesn't include the words "free trade"? bfgs'Tonight, I am announcing that we will launch talks on a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union — because trade that is free and fair across the Atlantic supports millions of good-paying American jobs," President Obama said in his State of the Union address. It's hard to think of any greater tonic for two stricken economies than free trade with one other. The U.S. and Europe, the world's two largest economic blocs, account for 45% of global GDP and nearly 40% of all trade, and have been kicking the idea around for decades. After extensive coaxing of the White House from Germany's pro-market Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.K.'s conservative Prime Minister David Cameron, negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) are expected to begin on June 18 at the next G-8 meeting in Britain.

Is the transatlantic pact really about free trade? No, it's about one-world government, check out the statements of the WH and the EU officials. Free trade is their cover.

That’s a shame, because if was really about free trade, it would be SO good for Americans.

It’s certainly not about free markets, that’s for sure. The EU is the biggest proponent and indeed champion of the social market economy, which regards the free market as the enemy.

You cannot Free Trade with a bloc like the EU. With all their subsidies, VAT rebates, and ingrained non-tarrif barriers, ain’t gonna happen.

Like you already alluded to in your post, this is again another “Free Trade Ruse” to backdoor One World Government (which is what modern free trade usually is).

..perhaps this is a move that, in time, will merge the eventual North American Union with the European Union into a mega superstate—kind of like a reconstitution of the Roman Empire in a general sense...

“Free Trade” with Red China, Mexico, and other Third world pits has been a disaster for the US and has decimated the American Middle-class. So I expect Democrats and Republicans alike to pursue this new “Free Trade” agreement with particular zeal.

Aside from the fact that a North American Union is merely a leftist’s dream based on the EU, this move subjugates the US to the EU.
“These negotiations will set a standard, not only for our future bilateral trade and investment, including regulatory issues, but for the development of global trade rules,” declared European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso at a news conference Wednesday. …
The US has knuckled under to the EU’s regulatory demands every step of the way. This is another step that enhances the EU’s power, since these “global trade rules” will be dictated by the European elites with Obama as compliant toady.

Free trade? I don’t think that’s what they have in mind. More like central-planned, fascistic, top-down, crony capitalism of the worst kind. Neo-feudalism.
