Investigators with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office recovered 81 spent shell casings at the scene of a murder in Marrero early Monday morning. Three suspects shot and killed Emeal Washington, 58, in the 6100 block of August Avenue, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.
"There was a substantial number of shots, 81 spent shell casings fired at this one particular victim," he said. The murder is the first in unincorporated Jefferson Parish this year.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. as Washington, of Marrero, was visiting a friend's August Avenue residence. The two stepped outside while Washington retrieved a cigarette from his vehicle, Fortunato said. As Washington began to walk back toward the house, the friend spotted the three gunmen, two wearing dark-colored clothing.
The friend yelled, warning Washington to run. But it was too late. The gunman unleashed a fusillade of bullets, striking Washington several times. He was dead at the scene, police said. Fortunato said crime scene technicians recovered casings from various caliber weapons.
No one answered the door Monday afternoon at the single-story, residence where the shooting occurred. Bullet holes, some measuring between 1 to 2-inches wide, pockmarked the brown, stucco walls. Numbers tagged the bullet holes, including five the door where projectiles ripped through the iron security gate.
A neighbor said the sound of rapid gunfire work her from her sleep. "All I heard was boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and I just hit the floor," she said. Bullets tore through two of her vehicles, and another pierced her doorframe.

Gunmen fired 81 shots at Emeal Washington, 58, the first murder victim in unincorporated Jefferson Parish in 2013, authorities say.
I’ll be the first. With that many rounds fired are they looking at police as the assailants?
ya beat me
BUMP!
It will fill you full of holes!
Where was the LAPD?
Even in Louisiana the reporters are idiots when they write about guns or weapons in general. Sure, there are pock marks on the stucco that large, but the bullet hole is relatively small.
The comments after the article are interesting. Several people said they knew the victim and were clueless about who would want to hurt him. He was obviously well liked. Sad
Before, during, or after?
whoa
If I were a handgun manufacturer I would put sights on the sides...cuz ammo is getting too damn expensive!
Remember: Always pay your drug dealer.
OR... the 'friend' whose HOUSE he was visiting. Notice they do not give the name of the 'friend'.
In this case it would be the La. police.

Sounds more like they shot the first person that came out of the house. It wasn't Emeal's house, he was visiting.
“I guess they wanted Emeal dead.”
I hear that they’re questioning his brother Email.
Some years ago, my wife named a ground squirrel, which lived near her garden, Emile because he kept coming into the garden for “a meal.”
The two of them, Emeal and Emile, met similar ends, though Emile didn’t require nearly 81 rounds to dispatch.
Maybe these were smarter-than-average perps who left a few handfuls of mixed shells to mess up forensics?
The cops will now have to find the resting place for each shell.
