When she became pregnant at age 20, Nehal Abdelmoneim was at risk of becoming another bleak statistic in Newark.
Her parents cut off all ties to the young woman, she said, for having a child out of wedlock. The father of her child left Abdelmoneim on her own, she added. She got evicted from her apartment and dropped out of college, she said.
Now at 25, shes still a single parent but has found full-time work as a security guard to support herself and her son. Like any parent, she said she wants the best for her 4-year-old son and plans to enroll him in kindergarten at a competitive charter school after he finishes preschool this year.
Everything right now is falling into place, finally, four years after, she said.
But shes still fighting the odds and according to a new report released last week by the Advocates for Children in New Jersey, the statistics in Newark are daunting.
This years Newark Kids Count report honed in on the earliest, most formative years of a childs life which set the stage for their future economic and education prospects, according to Cecilia Zalkind, the groups executive director.
There are roughly 4,500 babies born each year in Newark, according to the report.
Thats more than a dozen babies born daily in the states largest city many that face impoverished conditions and greater risk factors like single-parent households.

Since we are the pro life party maybe there is something we can do to help fix this problem. It’s sad cleaning up someone else’s mess but it’s doable.
-if the kid makes it through 12th grade without repeating a year that’s being raised by the government with 14 years in the system before he’s 19 years old.
Like any mother, Julia wants the best for her chile...

Sterilization after one child on government welfare should do it.
A prerequisite for welfare, EBT etc should be getting your tubes tied.
Once you have shown independence, you can then perhaps become fertile.
And you sir is what is wrong with the party. Contraception encourages women to lower their standards... Which helps boys like you in the short term and destroys society in the long term.
Perhaps everyone should just be sterilized until they have proven their abilities and have the means.

So, how long after arrival, likely as a pretend refugee, until dropping that anchor? Importing impoverished single mothers — just what America and particularly Newark, need.
They have maternity hotels in California now for Chinese moms to come and deliver anchor babies.

Well, the current approach doesn’t seem to be working. Got any ideas ?
So we should repeal the anchor baby allowance. That would stop illegals from coming here....Repubs should make that the one condition for passing anything on new illegal immmigration laws. Bue ole Boehner would probabl give and cry, I tried...
Well when your option is to pretend people aren’t sovereign then its all up from there.
How about putting limits on welfare?
how about actually requiring people to work towards getting off welfare?
golly thats not as sexy as forcibly sterilizing people but it might actually work without burning the Constitution.
Late 70s my uncle had a renter, a white trash woman with three kids and the last by c section, and the dr just went ahead and tied them off. Now that was a different America.

It's kind of like arguing over public education when all you need to do to fix it is to abolish it.
“How about putting limits on welfare?”
That works for me.
How do you recommend we do it?
You are the first FReeper that I’ve heard say this.
No reward for bad behavior.
Child of woman who can’t provide for that child, goes to an orphanage.
Mother is financially responsible for the child.
Daddy too, if known.
