Moaz Al-Khatib: New Regime in Syria Won’t be Foe to Israel
Al-Manar (Lebanon) ^ | Saturday, February 9, 2013 | Agencies

Head of Doha Coalition Moaz al-Khatib told the Israeli Newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth that “the new regime in Syria” will not be a foe to ‘Israel’ and will not attack it, SANA news agency reported.

Al-Khatib added that "Israel shouldn't be worried over the issue of the chemical weapons as the opposition coalition will possess the regime's stockpiles of weapons, including the chemical and prevent them from falling in to Hezbollah's hands."

He said that the coalition has a plan to impose control over the strategic weapons in Syria in case the regime falls.

He described Hezbollah as "sons of devil", adding that "We'll spare no effort to prevent any military or chemical weapons passing to it. We realize that this topic is of major concern to Israel and we are cooperating with international sides to help us in this regard."

He confessed to having received information from the US, French and German intelligence on the Syrian army and its bases and movements.

Oh, sure. Old Hezbollah are sons of devil, new Al-Qaeda are sons of angels. Right, what else?

OK time to get your Syrian tip sheets out and see who’s been scratched and which horse is still in the race and which ones are left at the gate...

My pleasure.

The Hizzies back the Assad regime; the underlying, mostly secular factions (seen above) realize that Israel isn’t the cause of Syria’s problems, and that they have a common enemy. In fact, they have two common enemies, since those fighting Assad come in at least three different flavors (Sunni-backed, Kurdish, secular), and maybe four (with the Iranians, who will prop up a proxy/puppet as they’ve tried to do in Lebanon these past 30 years) or five (Russia, who are at best a long shot).

The outcome of the current fighting will have a very great impact in years to come on Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and Kurdistan, and for that matter Iran, Iraq, and Russia’s influence in the region.

Concur. Good analysis.

There really aren't any “good guys” here. Instead, you have bad and worse. The Saudis and Yemen are backing Obama’s (and the Euros) attempts to deliver Syria to the Sunni Muslim bloc; Iran is backing Syria (with Russian and Chinese backing) to maintain the Alawite/Shi'ite/Druze/Christian minority in power in Syria under Assad.

IMHO, the Benghazi affair was about the smuggling of ex-Libyan heavy weapons by the U.S. State Department and CIA into Turkey for use by the New Syrian Army rebels fighting Assad. I believe the attack was a shot across America's bow by Iran and Russia that they knew what we were doing and it had to stop. The word on the street is that DoS/CIA smuggled ex-Libyan chemical weapons and delivery systems to Syria for use by the NSA in “false flag” ops against Assad. So far, no chemical weapons have been deployed. If that day comes, then the crap will really hit the fan and the big players may step up to the plate to defend Assad. That would be a major escalation. Obama is playing with decomposing nitroglycerin here and things could get very serious, very fast if he's miscalculated. John F. Kerry at DoS does NOT inspire confidence.
