Boy Scouts: We need more time for decision on gay membership (They tabled the motion)
NBC News ^ | February 6, 2013 | Miranda Leitsinger

The Boy Scouts of America said Wednesday it needed "more time for a deliberate review" of its policy banning gay Scouts and leaders, delaying a final decision on the controversial membership guidelines that have dogged the private youth organization in recent years.

"In the past two weeks, Scouting has received an outpouring of feedback from the American public. It reinforces how deeply people care about Scouting and how passionate they are about the organization," the organization said in a statement. "After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy."

The executive board has directed its committees to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and take in their perspectives and concerns as officers work toward a resolution on membership standards. The roughly 1,400 voting members of the national council will take action on the resolution at the national meeting in May 2013, the organization said.

It is a parliamentary manuver.

Ernst & Young CEO James Turley and AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, who are actively seeking to change the Boy Scouts long standing policy KNEW they were going to lose now so they punted.

The did not have the votes and rather than face defeat they tabled it in hopes of finding some BS managment style negotiating point.

Remember who these scumbags are. They are used to power negotiating and their egos always get their way.

Only greed and fear of losing sponsors can explain this wishy-washy position. The clear weakness in needing "more time" indicates that the weakness is in the leadership of the BSA. The people making comments told them to stand fast, but greed and shakiness tells them to be indecisive until they figure out how best to counter the people who want them to stay on the side of God.

Are they pretending that there is no relationship between pedophilia and homosexuality? Or is their desire to please their degenerate sponsors to keep the money rolling in more important than the well being and safety of boy scouts?

Why are they afraid to make a decision to stand fast?

Think of the implications of letting queers in.

The final part of the Scout Oath states, "To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."

If they keep the Oath as is, that now implies that queers are "morally straight".......either that, or they need to remove that part from the Oath, should queers be let in.

RE :”it’s hardly lose-lose.”

Not to an anonymous freeper of course. He can post any opinion he wants without consequences to his person. No one is going to track him down and have him fired from his job for it.

But the BScouts survive on donations. They have to live in the real world. So they are punished either way,

As long as they dont change current policy on gays I am content with them. Its not their job to take on America's political/social battles (esp ones we are losing) as if they are a talk radio host.

“The fact that their leadership has to ponder on why it would be wrong to expose boys to sexual deviants says everything.
I don’t have a child that could join the Boy Scouts but if I did I would not entrust my child anywhere near a leadership that was to afraid to speak up for their protection.
It’s absolutely disgusting what we have become as a society when even the Boy Scouts doesn’t know how to stand up for the children they are entrusted to protect .
THIS IS NOT MY AMERICA ANYMORE”

Your statement, very unfortunately, is right on. Mighty dark days we live in.

They shouldn't have to rely on Corporate donations...that is making a 'deal with the devil'.

Well, maybe the two “instigators” need to sign a joint-and-several guarantee to reimburse the BSOA for any financial costs arising from the sexual abuse of scouts by predatory gay ‘leaders’ if the change in policy the instigators are promoting is made.

They say that the cost to Penn State of “coach” Sandusky’s frolicking with young boys was about $100 million.

And they say the cost to the Catholic Church to compensate the young boys victimized by a few perverted “priests” exceeded $3 billion. $3 BILLION!

So I wonder. Do those two “instigators” have a combined net worth in excess of $3 billion?

If so, will they indemnify the BSOA with their personal wealth?

If not, then how much protection would their personal guarantees be worth? Obviously, the BSOA is not as rich as the Catholic Church. Therefore, even with the personal guarantees I suggested, the actions of just a few perverts could push the BSOA into bankruptcy.

I would be surprised if the efforts of those two instigators to push the BSOA into bankruptcy is consistent with their Fiduciary Duty to protect and preserve the BSOA.

Yes, I think they would have lost now.

They’ll probably win the next time around, though, because a lot of financial pressure will be exerted on the Scouts (by the aforementioned Turley and Stephenson and their allies) and the Scouts will probably be so villified and weakened by May that this will pass in an instant.

Because nobody dares to go on the offensive against the gay agenda, even when they oppose them, it’s done in a lukewarm fashion. It makes it difficult for the “rank and file” to keep up the fight, when their leadership won’t even do it.

It’s similar to the problem in today’s Republican Party, how can we fight when the leadership won’t have our backs?

That we even NEED to keep the pressure on them is grievous beyond words. This should be a battle that we don’t even need to fight. Pathetic.

Yes, fully agree. The two homo-activists must be removed from the board, with no apologies or compensation.

Big problem for BSA having corporate leaders on the Board of Directors. These guys won’t separate their “diversity” requirements instituted in business from the rights to freely associate (and thus not associate) in private. There’s a huge difference between working in the same office with a homosexual and allowing an individual who admittedly is aroused by someone of the same sex to go camping and otherwise be in close quarters and little privacy with young boys.
Hopefully when this comes to a vote and they lose, big time I pray, these two simply resign. Expect there to be repercussions to individuals who stand up - the Board will probably need to rely more and more on retired individuals to fill its positions, those who can afford to stand on principle without having their business damaged, which the left will attempt to do. Of course Chik Fil A proves the businesses can survive and thrive, just not that many with the willingness to stand up.

It shows there's a rift, and rifts can be exploited.

Absolutely...remember, the Devil was a "sower of discord." Some of the weaker members have obviously chosen the wrong side. The problem is that they may be weak, but they have the Federal Government and the media behind them. By May, there will either be an open "schism" in the Scouts, or there will be total capitulation, forcing those who don't agree to go off and form their own organizations.

Fortunately, I think there are a lot of creative people dedicated to the education of youth who might actually welcome the challenge.

Baden-Powell is probably upchucking in his grave even as we speak, however.

Simple solution. Form your own non-profit charity and give them big donations from many like-minded others under the conditions that you state, in this case keeping their current policy on gays. (but keep the overhead low)

Talk is cheap.

If they lose all their donors (now) like me who dont want the policy to change , what you think their options would be on this? Only one.

Those who think this important should talk with their $$$.

I see this as a good sign. Having been involved in large organizations for a couple of decades I can say that the way to create a revolt or an upheaval is all-at-once on short notice, which is what I thought was expecting happen. The way to STOP that kind of take-over is to gather enough votes to table the key motion and buy time. When that happens the status quo usually comes out ahead on the next vote. It is important now however for defenders of the scouts to mobilize, get their ducks in order and make sure they overwhelm the next meeting, perhaps making a motion to take it up and the next full convention (which will totally kill it).

Wow. THIS is bad.

Not likely. It probably means the pro-homos don't have the votes to overturn the policy, so, instead of it being soundly defeated, they made sure to "table" it.

Live to fight another day and all that.

Randall Stephenson is next in line for the top chair.

These two need to be kicked out the door.

Translation:

Wow, we really did not think that our members, leaders and charter organizations would respond so strongly against or attempt to push the burden of the decision down to the unit level.

Well we can’t tick or members off, and we dont want to have the gay nazis after us again, so we will come up with a face saving measure that kicks the can further down the road.

There is NOTHING complex about the issue! Abandon God and the beliefs of 5000 years of civilization, and see how many people continue to support scouting.
